My take on a Coffee Pot

I've made a small investment in a new printer.

My word it's fast!

Very easy to use, literally 8 screws to put it together, let it self calibrate for 20 minutes, and that's it. The closest I've ever seen to plug and play - as opposed to plug and pray with 3D printing.

How is the v. 2 print coming on, Rik?

I tried modifying the loco to 3' gauge but wasn't happy with the outcome

So I started again from scratch, basing the model on Watkins, the three foot de Winton in the foyer at Caernarfon Station.

It took a few weeks of trial and error tinkering to get everything to work and to cram the batteries, receiver, soundcard and speaker in, but this morning she had her first test run

I'm now printing out version 2. Which corrects most of the mistakes I made on this version.

Here, take my money!!!!!!! Have you posted this on the 16mm FB pages? If not, it's a must-do, especially with the use of the 'wind' section of the orchestra.

I have on one comment - the valve gear needs to be more 'out of phase', either by 90 degrees for a twin cylinder, or, if one you are simulating a single cylinder with an admission valve, about 30 degrees will do it.

This is actually v3 ...... V4 is even better....!
Very fiddly build but I'm pleased with my scratchbuilt mechanism.

Because much of the gubbins is on-show, there's not much room for the behind-the-scenes electrics, and so a fair amount of tweaking and adaptation was required. Also, unlike most of my builds so far, I had to do a lot of the painting before assembly.

There's still a fair bit more to do - mostly pipework, nameplates, number plates, buffers, couplings and a few minor details. Nearly there!

Maybe Mk 5 will include an operating reversing lever with animated driver? Might be a step too far...... :D
