Mental block on motor block

Ok then...
One simple question that I seem unable to find the answer to.
I know it's LGB. It has 45 mm diameter wheels, the wheelbase is 124 mm. Overall length is 198 mm and it has a 4 pin connector.
But what loco is this motor unknown motorblock.jpgblock from???

Help....!:banghead:

Paul.

Are you certain it's an LGB motor block ? It doesn't look familiar to me.

Which loco is it from ?

Yes, I think it's one of the replacement blocks that LGB made for the E10, after the disastrous first release that had the strange vertical-motored blocks (which I think may have only driven on one axle per block?).... there was also an issue with the power pickups on the first release motor blocks, I think some (many?) of them were missing....
LGB quite hurriedly made an all-new replacement motor block with "conventional" dual-axle drive from a longitudinal motor, and that is what is shown in the photos here - can still be obtained relatively cheaply, I believe.

Jon.

I asked almost exactly the same question some while back, I got my one at the 16mm Convention last year thinking that it was a good usable Block. But with only 1 Powered Wheel it is pretty near useless and as Jon. Says from the E10. Mine is the one with a Vertical Motor. Here is a pic of mine undergoing removal of Pickups for testing. I had thought about Delrin Chain to make it a 4w Drive but the internal Construction makes that near impossible. Certainly one bad purchase.

That link gives a model number that's not in the LGB manuals list so could be a loco from one of the 'sets'. I recently bought a combined factory-fitted decoder and sound unit purportedly taken from a DCC equipped loco that was only listed in an analogue version. After some research I found the model had been produced in limited quantities with decoder and sound as part of the RHB Shotterzug set. Not tested it yet, but it was only fifteen quid.

Thanks guys.
That does seem to be the one. It must be a 2nd gen version as the 1st gen had a vertical motor. Now I wonder what happened to the other bogie?
Cheers,
Paul.

There may well have never been an "other" one - these replacement blocks were commonly available as spare parts, I recall seeing several for sale on KGR's stall at shows at relatively low prices ("relatively" for LGB motor units, anyway), so this may well be just an individually-sold single.....

Mine was one from KGR.

Looks like I dodged a bullet. Mine is 4 wheel drive. Hmm... Now what to do with it?

Sell it on evilBay.... As *RARE*!:rofl::rofl:

I had to chip an early E10 (it was 'orrible!)........
From memory, there was only one motorised block??? - Or was it a different loco, with a vertical motor????

It should make a decent starting point for a scratchbuild of some sort - though the wheels are a little on the large side, anyone suggest a suitable prototype that would look OK?

Jon.

Make a loco for it, class 29 had spoked wheels so I made itIMG_20190327_112041.jpg

Hmmm.....
I might just have enough 'bits' to bodge something like that??:think:

Where they ever 'fully enclosed', or would the boiler be visible, between the tanks?

Think it was always like that though I am sure I have seen a pic of it sans skirts. But that would be no good for that Chassis as it was an 0-4-2. Though unless you look at a low side view one could never tell in a Model.

Not easy to find photos or information about the loco - Wiki lists all the T&D locos except No 4 - bit of a who dunnit. I have never seen a photo of it operating on the line, wonder if it may have gone to another of the Irish narrow gauge lines - a 2-4-0 or 0-4-2 would probably not have had enough traction for the T&D :wondering::wondering::wondering:
