Maximum traction bogies

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
After doing some research I have abandoned plans to make a Sydney D class car from a cut down Bachmann saloon and both ends of a Bachmann toastrack because the overhang is so great it would actually foul some of the traction poles on curves so I decided instead to make a 10 bench toastrack maximum traction car from 2 bodies..... I was all ready to purchase 2 magic carpet units i.e. this is a scale 33" motorised axle unit but they are no longer available and they were damned expensive to boot.
Does anyone know of any G gauge maximum traction bogies available or any powered wheel sets so that I could make my own....

This chap does components for 1:16 scale but has no website - I did have his catalogue (a few years back) but cannot find it at the moment.

He made stuff to convert Bachmann trams (and conversions from Jackson & Sharp coaches to Interurbans) but mainly British stuff. As the MT truck was used quite a lot in the UK (Mountain & Gibson, etc.) I am sure he will have something.

I'll try and find out more for you. Also you can take a look at this site - http://www.tramwayinfo.com/

I have a mate coming for tea on Monday who I'm pretty sure knows the guy at MTS, so I'll ask around as well. There is a model maker in Blackpool who made an 0 scale model of Manchester 765, including scratchbuilding the Brill 22e trucks, some years ago, so we may be able to get in touch with him.

This problem may have been resolved...
I have had a chat with the "dudes" at Make Hack Void.... I provide a few pics and they say its going to take longer to print out the parts than create the 3D file. Wheels? I supply turned up brass tyres and they can line them up and print the centres complete with spokes, holes whatever I want. One of the robotics gurus sees no problem in putting an existing epicycloid gearbox on the axle and swinging the motor also off the axle. "No real challenge there dude!" he says with much alacrity...

Obviously if I am to survive as a modeler I have to learn to think way outside my comfort zone....

Trev,
while reading each post of this thread I had not got to the last thread in which you solved your problem. While reading I kept thinking of a Japanese guy who posted on MLS years ago. His specialty was making G scale Japanese trains from paper. His power bogies were much as you describe with a small 'traction motor' pivoted about the axle and driving the axle by way of RC car gearsets. He powered just one axle per truck.

Finally found what I was looking for;-

It is nearly ten years since I obtained the catalogue. The contact details were;

M.Elvered
8 Upper Road
Moole Brace
Shrewsbury
SY3 9JD

I have a phone number if wanted. Mind you, the 22E truck was unmotored and priced at nearly £50.00 then!

Trev you can get the Brill 22E truck off the shelf in 45mm. Try either the Brissy museum or Adelaide I think they are around $50 each. Think they are made by a man in SE Queensland.

My son kit bashed two bachmann trams into victorian W2 classtram not completley finished but runable.A bloody good effort. pic enclosed, Down south Castlemaine Victoria.

Sir,

Is it possible to be more specific.

I would like to buy such Brill 22E trucks.

Do you have an Email address or a Web site address where such trucks can be bought ??

Regards, Philippe

I came by your thread via a search for something on google, if you are still looking for truck sides, KW Trams I see have just brought out some more G Scale tram parts.
