Lorst and gorn

My Roundhouse/Shawe Fowler has been sold. Hated to see it go because it was a superb performer and a lovely loco but, unfortunately, I found that when push came to shove I tended to take a four-coupled locomotive with me to run because the cleaning and maintenance of motive power with an (almost) permanently coupled tender took a longer. Lovely runner however and at the Peco event a couple of years ago I ran continuously for an hour and a half with 24 axles behind the drawbar – because one of the runners decided not to turn up. Once the fire had settled it just ran and ran, with a short stop for water and coal every 15 minutes. I am missing it but I did need another gas fired radio controlled locomotive (OK I know – heresy!) for running at certain railways and so a Roundhouse Karen is now on order.

This is the Fowler running at Peco

Running at Ted Dixon's line up near the moor. The loco is actually moving but very little steam show in that heat

The modified cab. Plenty of room for a driver.

Shame you've moved that one along Tag, I liked that one! Can see the logic though, I certainly saw the Edrig in steam more often than the Fowler.

Looking forward to seeing what you make of Karen though ;)

a proper looking steam engine.. love the footplate..could almost taste the backion and eggs

Lovely loco, trust it went to a long-term admirer, thus avoiding the indignity of evilbay. Know what you mean about the hassle of separating tenders when you need a thorough clean after each run. To this end I've removed the receiver and batteries from the tender of my ELR Fowler and, thanks to the capacity of modern AAA cells the whole lot will fit inside the double-skinned tropical roof so no trailing wires.
What's more, there's now about 30% more water capacity in the tender.

Roll on Saturday,
Rob

Many....many.....MANY times..... ;)

Jon.

Scale bacon and eggs, now I really do want a coal fired steamie  And if I could get it looking as good as Tag's....mmm, nice. Home we get to see some piccies of it in action from the new owner, a lucky man.

Hopefully James Slater will continue happy steamings ahead. I understand about the tender, my second coalie was a billy style with a 4 wheel tender like Helga on the Stanhorpe Light Railway, The tender got in the way and a real drag, so am converting it to a saddle tank.

Regards
Steve

Tag,
If only you'd come to this decision about two years ago - it could have been running on my line now!
There's a very lucky new owner out there.
Nick

In Australia ? Are you sure it can run, upside down?

The Karen looks very nice against the 0-4-0 which you have in your rosters, I received mine a few days ago in fact both loco arrived within a week of each other.

Indeed they do look good. I do like what you have done to your Ragleth.

Hi Tag
First loco I had a go at adding detailing, followed your first article on the Ragleth, and then rolled it out to others in the fleet, will be doing some to Karen in the winter months and some more to the Ragleth, have a few bits to add, jacks, and bits.
