Hello all,
I have in my possession a limited edition LGB A72520 set that has seen a LOT of abuse, and since according to the box it's 1 out of 1000 I want to restore it as much as I can. The set as best I can tell is 20 years old and originally included a diesel loco and 2 flatcars with die-cast model car loads, as well as 4 plastic model workmen. Only the engine and one flatcar remain, and one of the flatcar's wheels has broken off from the carriage. The control box and track is still functional, and the engine still works as well but is pretty dinged up.
This is the only LGB set I've owned and I don't even know where to begin trying to fix this, whether they still make replacement parts, or if it can even be fully restored. I live hundreds of miles away from the nearest LGB dealer. Any help with this would be really appreciated; I'd hate to see something limited edition get trashed.
Here are the pictures I have taken of the set, starting with the receipt showing the set number:

The box showing it's #151 out of 1000. It came with an engraved nametag that I've crossed out to protect privacy:

The inside of the box, what remains of the set (original tracks are in the smaller red box):

A shot of the locomotive:

Another shot of the loco:

The bottom of the only remaining flatcar, which is in decent shape apart from the broken, free-floating wheel:
