I think the other LGB rail was Stainless Steel, highly expensive. Peco G45 250 is certainly N/S and they do a joiner to attach to LGB 332 rail that can be insulated or using the slips of metal for power connection.
I have a full yellow box of 1 foot LGB NICKEL track (12 pieces). This box does not weigh much and can not be plated brass!! This box has a similiar weight to just 2 pieces of the LGB 1 foot brass. Perhaps LGB changed how they made the 'nickel' track in later years??
The Nickel-plated track was only introduced in 2006 (and met its demise when LGB declared bankrupcy, i presume).
A yellow box means very early in LGB's existence. Does the box say "Nickel"? Or might it be the track with chrome-plated aluminium rails that LGB offered at the outset (alongside their brass ones). This is from their 1968 catalogue . . .
