Don't take the bottom off the motor-block. - Wish I had one of these here..

Look's like the three screws down each side, then just the ones at each end of the motor-block.

The upper body should start to be free.

Yes, that's wrong forwards should be the right arrow.

basically you want to remove the cab and the boiler so it looks like this - you don't need to dismantle the motor block

I’m guessing with digital the answer is no

You are right, this doesn't matter with digital.

So if I am getting forward using the left arrow does this also mean a wrong decoder wiring maybe the two wires to the motor are wrong way around and the lights may be correct
Will open it up tomorrow and ask you all

Yes did that it opens a space of gears not the board
So got some advice to remove the cab and boiler cover. Tomorrow’s fun
