I have progressed my Garratt project as far as possible until I can purchase the necessary decoders, to then paint and finish the loco. Until then, I am considering another Garratt, with this being an 0-6-0/0-6-0. I have a further two very early LGB locomotives (both quite rare), being a #2017 and a #2016. The #2017 was only made in limited numbers and was similar to the #2017D, with the exception that it had a non-smoking stack and 'solid' wheels. The #2016 was also similar, but alas did not come with a powered tender. The tender block simply has power pickups.
Pictured is one drive block for the project. The beauty of this project is that it will not be necessary to reduce the tender body length and secondly, more of the boiler carrier should be over the rear axle on each drive. Loco drive will transit down to six foot diameter curves. Having a supply of spares does help when modifying old LGB.
