I purchased a 1229 switch/crossover earlier in the year. It works very smooth if you remove the square cover and rotate the round handle by hand. What I need to know is how does it operate from electricity there are four wires.. Brn, Green, yellow, white. What goes where and what kind of control is needed?A wireing diagram would be wonderful. Thanks guys.

Thank you for your help. My only excuse is the 5 and the 9 are close together on the numeric key pad. While I have your attention are the orange and red control boxes interchangeable? The main difference seems to be the connections.

Basically the set up is that two of the wires (yellow and brown) supply power to the point motor while the other two (green and white) trigger the movement of the slip blades. The LGB standard wiring diagram is shown earlier in the thread.

There is a limit switch arrangement inside the point motor that cuts off power to the motor when it has reached its limit of travel in either direction.

While I have your attention are the orange and red control boxes interchangeable?

If the LGB control box number is of the pattern 5x75x the function is generally the same but the colour may vary between red and orange depending on when it was made.

sorry, but the colours - orange, yellow, red and brown are for different things.

The function is identified by the part number, not the colour. The colours have changed over the many decades LGB had been in production. All the photos below are of LGB 5x75x switch boxes.

i play with LGB since 1970, but today i learned something new.

thank you for the pics.
Thanks all, I have done a lot of studying in two old LGB catalogs and good old e-bay. I have a red 5075 on the way. I like the older design with binding posts or I think I do. Is cool the way you can hook the units in series. Plan to use outside on a yard I'm building. (What we call a yard or classification Yard. What do ya'll call it?) Again thanks for all your ideas. I may add some to this thread when my 5075 comes in.

As Paul says Marshalling yard not seen these days as such in UK as single wagon loads have disappeared, most freight are block trains such as container (not double stack sadly), oil, bio fuel to power stations plus odd other special needs block trains (steel works etc) not forgetting trains for engineering purposes which these days seam to be a great many.

1225 is the original very old first version. 1226 is the newer version and uses 2 standard EPL switch drives.
