KYR Ground up

Ive seen that in the grounds of preston park allen but its never been running whe weve been there ,will have to try get there when its open my little girl loves them , was funny yesterday the baby still inside the wife jumped a mile as did my little girl when the sir nigel greasly blew out his pipes at grosmont . was a good day

Well ive ran out of sand now so work todays stoped, pointing and rendering , going to take some track out there see how it looks this aft after ive done the shoping and usual weekend tasks

Jim:wave:

Thanks for the offer allan but wile out shoping, lidl had compost on offer 40L for £2 so 3 bags later and the garden/rockery bit is now built back up and me and my little girl replanted it put in a couple of new alpines aswell , had a wale of a time splodging round in compost and puddles .

Made a bit of a descovery aswell ,well sort of the old flats (originaly boy and girl school) where leveled a couple of years ago and theres loads of good old bricks still left laying about and party burried so got a good suply of old bricks now to build up my back wall to make the yard a bit more secure

Jim No pics today cameras died il get some tomorrow after work il also put some track down so people think its a arden railway thread not a pimp my yard thread:bigsmile:

Dave ive emailed a reply to you thanks buddy good karma sent

Finaly got some track out side after work ,but i think ive hit a snag. The idea i had of a passing loop for a station on the wall side of the decking might be out ,as the track dose shrink the decking space down .so im thinking of moveing the loop down the wall so the point is just on the edge of the decking and the second point is just before it meets the small walled garden bit

Concrete every time Jim.

Wooden ones rot, and I guess these days would not meet building regs....

After looking on a few diy sites looks like they only sell concrete ones now and they quite cheep gess what im doing on the weekend :D ,

Hears another question for you clever people ,this shelf im planning on laying my track on round the yard, do i need to make some kind of braceing under the decking boards to strengthen them to stop twisting or can i just bracket the boards to the wall ?

You would be ok just bracketing to the wall as long as you spaced the brackets fairly closely and the wall is solid enough to support it, although any strength that you can give to the decking will help to keep it straight in the long run because all wood left outside will start to bend no matter how well protected eventually.

Walls are defonatly strong enough. the house and yard has been standing from at least 1900s if not earlyer . whats would be best to brace it? wooden under frame or steel strips tieing the brackets in to the wood ?

Thanks Jim

I guess what ever is easiest for you to do Jim with the skills and materials you have.

Wood is easier to saw, but steel will last longer and be stronger....

Working in a under payed but fully equiped garage has some perks the gaffa has given me run of the garage and welding gear for personal use ,so brakets i can make or buy cheep and strengthen up to last at work , .

My plan then is brackets tied with two steal strips (almost like a steel shelf) that the decking boards will be screwed to . or somthing along them lines . think il probs get some nice looking hanging basket brackets so they look nice as well as function then brace it all .

Hopeing to pick up a couple of decking boards and maby a couple of brackets sat is the wife agrees (il slip em in the trolly in the garden centre:thumbup:

great to see a new railway springing up... its all good gravel:thumbup:

The trucks were given to me from Simon for the boys but they don't use them so I thought it best to pass them on to someone who will get the benefit. More than enough people have looked after me and it's nice to pass it on if I can. Good gravel feels good to me (explination costs beer!!;))

Good gravel:bigsmile: sounds like a story behind that .

I must admit the forum is very welcoming and helpfull with some genuinely nice peple

Thank you all bit of brick laying this weekend if the weather gets better . off to the local builders yard to see if i can get some decking boards and brackets .
