IP Engineering Albert

British narrow gauge (esp. Southwold and W&LLR)
Country flag
I've been at it again. This time, I've turned my hand to an IP Engineering Albert. I've set it to 32mm gauge (but could just as easily have set it to 45mm gauge), as she will shuttle back and forth (using auto-shuttle) on the copper mine feeder.

The kit went together quite well - a bit fiddlier than the HGLW build as some of the parts need to be aligned by eye. I've installed a Deltang Rx65a receiver just visible above the motor in this picture. The Rx65a has been superceded by the Rx65b but I had one left over from a previous conversion.

Powered by two 14500 (AA sized) li-ion batteries wired in parallel (so I can get twice the running time). Deltang receivers are designed to run from li-ion batteries (they include low voltage cut-out to protect the batteries from over-discharge) and so will quite happily run on a single 3.7v li-ion. The batteries just squeeze in under the chassis. I'm going to add Delrin sprocket and chain drive to improve her pulling power.

Will blog the build once I've done a paint job on her.

'She' - is Albert n'est-ce-pas ? Something like 'Winnie-THE-Pooh' ? :think::think::think:

All locos are 'she' aren't they?
Even 'The Flying Scotsman'..... :)

Rik
Don't mention the scotchman - cantankerous b**** let us down - and the the NRM had the cheek to post on their website that it was all 'OK' - the trips were not cancelled, just re-arranged :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

But yes, I suspect you're right, although Lord Nelson would probably turn in his/her grave :D:D:D

Taken a while (since May) to get around to finishing off this wee beastie - but she's now resplendent in PLR colours. Still need to add some detailing such as the cab interior, a driver, an exhaust pipe and some general clutter on the running board - oh and name and number plates - but otherwise she's ready to enter service. I'd forgotten what a fag painting plywood rolling stock is .....

Oh yes, definitely regaugeable. The wheels aren't mounted on the axles and so can be mounted at any distance apart. A simple back to back jig is provided in the kit for 32mm and 45mm.

PS - There seem to be two separate websites for IPE - on this one, the Albert kit is shown as 32mm or 45mm - http://www.ipengineering.co.uk/page125.html

Does 'Albert' originate from "that well known resort town of Blackpool"?
