I don't believe it

Seriously - for a moment. I'll pay (not £27) for a Spreewald box and insert.

OK mate, make it £30 then :rolf::rolf::rolf::rolf:.

Call it £50 and he might throw in the track free :rolf::rolf::rolf:

same as me throw all these box in the bin!!! lol..didnt know tht..coz hates it when u put in and then take it out on off on off.....so u can make a train box to travel it..

I have bought and sold LGB boxes for years, but never a track/set box. Stumper that one!

I have a shed load of empty box's. No really a shed load!!!

It must be a collector's thing - hoping for a substantial return on their investment - item + box worth loads of money:rolf::rolf::rolf:

Well I've kept all my boxes. If anything happens to me my wife will need to sell the lot for as much as possible and a mint/good condition item in its original box appears to be worth more than unboxed.

Yep, that's pretty much why I've kept all my boxes too - if I ever need or choose to give up the hobby, or if, as you say, anything nasty happens - I want my collection to have the highest possible resale value. I've bought my stuff to run and enjoy, not for investment value, but anything that helps keep potential resale value up cannot be a bad thing.
Having said that, I really can't understand why this track set box should have been so attractive to people - OK, a boxed loco is more saleable than an unboxed one, so I can understand buying a replacement box for an expensive loco. But the track sets are bargain-priced anyway - you would probably get LESS for the boxed set than you would by selling the component parts separately....

As trammayo wrote, box + item worth much more than sum of individual parts.
I sold a boxed Hornby Dublo diesel shunter on ebay a few years ago for about £35 IIRC. The winning bidder's special instructions were: "Please remove diesel shunter from box before despatch". I queried this and he confirmed that he only wanted the box, so I re-listed the shunter and it sold for about £8.

Yep! I'll be honest and say exactly the same as Nigel. Some day I intend to catalogue all I've gpt so whoever sells it on SWMBO's behalf will have half a chance:rolf:

Judging by the extra information he added yesterday, reminding everyone that this really IS just an empty box, I would guess that even the seller is quite astonished at how high someone has bid for this.... I've put it on my watch list just to see how high it eventually goes!

My gob is well and truly smacked! I remember collecting matchboxes as a kid - but this is just plain ridiculous....... Mind you, how many kids do you know who used to play with the box the present came in at Christmas as much as what was inside it?

Perhaps we should start a new section on the forum for box collectors.
