How to take apart Central Station (LGB 55005)

Just an update this time, :-). Chalk have got back to me, & said to send it to Massoth! I'm still waiting for a response from Massoth on their 'Hotline' (I'd hate to think how long the 'n ormal' line takes to get a response!).

Have you sent your note to info@massoth.de or hotline@massoth.com?

The first is the German contact (the correct one for a European customer) and you normally get a reply within 24 hours. the second is the US site.

To be honest, I don't really understand why you are trying to contact them. They can't give you a binding price via email as they can't tell what's wrong with the box. When I've had issues with LGB kit, I've simply sent it off to Frankensteiner Strasse with a covering note. Items have been repaired within a couple of weeks.

By the way, there are several 55005s on EBay at the moment (both UK and German) and a couple on sale at Glendale Junction too.

I resent my original mail yesterday, this time to both of the addresses you mention, as well as hotline@massoth.de plus info & sales@massoth.com, I didn't even get the automated reply this time though.
I've always considered it good practice to contact a company before sending something through the post, I'm not expecting a detailed estimate, just confirmation of the correct procedure for return.
I'm well aware of eBay & what's for sale on it, pretty much all of my collection has come from there. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to be able to afford to pay eBay (or Glendale, or GRS) prices. I saw this as an affordable way into MTS, foolishly thinking (as an electronics engineer) I'd be able to repair the item. Not forseeing the total lack of availibilty of circuit diagrams or any other information. With hindsight, I wish I'd never bothered!

Just as a quick postscript to this one, Massoth did get back to me in the end & gave me a quote for inspection & likely ongoing costs. Plus a useful guide to sending equipment to them.
I followed the instructions, sent it to them, & within 3 days had an email quote for repairs, I agreed to the costs & 4 days later received my repaired unit back (including complimentry bag of Hirobo!). Pay by PayPal & sorted. Very painless in the end, & I've ended up with a central Station considerably cheaper than Glendale, GRS etc are selling them for currently. In fact last time I looked, GRS had 4 of these units, all for the same price (£149), & they've been there for months. Seems to me that if they lowered the price a bit, maybe people would buy them? I certainly would have done.

So how much did Massoth charge you?

They charged me 60 Euros for the repair plus postage, quite reasonable I thought. I've since asked them for a report on what they actually did, but it's gone very quiet again.

Useful info: thanks. I imagine that the "repair" is similar to that performed on an LGB universal remote which I had upgraded from serial to parallel: rip out the whole circuit board and put in a new one!

Interesting, hadn't thought of that. I'm quite tempted to pop the top off & have a look to see if the board looks new. There's no mention of any warranty on repairs, so I'm guessing there isn't one!
