How can I adjust the front axel of front truck....

Hello to everybody. Well apparently this is a relatively new unit. The plastic and metal screw shafts are showing no sign of wear. But they are not connecting. This is my only engine and would really like to have it running. I can not run it in this condition. There is a screw at the front of the truck can I do some adjustments with that? I had the truck cover on as tight as it could go. Thanks

I did. Then I noticed the front axel not moving. This hobby is on hold

I tried again and nope. If I shave the 2 screw holders so they are a bit shorter that might work??? The two that are next to the axel that is not touching.

What make is your loco?

Some have shaped bearings, which have to sit in grooves in the wall of the block..
If these are not correctly seated, the worm (on the motor-shaft) and wheel (the gear on the axle) will not mesh.

I have just received a USA Trains loco, which I think must have new axles? - The gears do not seem worn.
BUT, the centre of the worm, one only., this is a double-shafted motor, is worn away in the centre.


The other alternative, is that the motor has moved. The block will not close properly, so the gears will not mesh.


It is not clear, if the wheel (gear) is worn. - It does not look overly worn, from what I can see.

Yes it is not worn from what I see. I want to run my train. Have you ever heard of shaving the 2 screw posts down so the 2 will meet? I want to do that but consult with the experts first. I think it is Aristo craft

If the two parts of the block will not meet, there is something not in the right place.. Shavlng the posts down will not help..

Either the motor is not seated correctly, or something is wrong with the way the parts are lined up, where you have removed the bottom of the block.

I think I got it. You have to fiddle around with the 2 axle supports. Then clamp with your fingers and screw tight. I do see there is grease in there. What type of grease do you recommend. So now I have a 2.5 fuse ..a front axle that turns ...yaaa

LGB gear lubricant is the one that I use.

are the wheels loose in the axle? you see the piece of plastic that connects the 2 wheels together?

remove the axle and try to lightly turn the 2 wheels in opposite direction... I'll bet the metal axles slip in the plastic gear..

Ya thanks Greg. It was a bit of a go but got it done. I gave it a go but not on the tracks yet. Will do that tomorrow. Thanks to you's all for your help eh.

Well....battery is the way to go first off in my situation. Having the track on the ground like that and having a puppy trounce on it with her dirty muddy paws. The engine was only out of service for like 5 hours which is not too bad. I never did open up that truck. I did open up the rear truck to see which wires were connected to the motor. I would have to learn how to assemble a truck eventually so all good. Onward and forward eh. gscalenycentral.net

Yep, until you find out, the hard way, that there are many ways to terminally kill a good, expensive, battery. You heard it here first.

Nope my battery is still good. ...and not expensive. I had it already sitting around for many years. It was for a remote control car I bought in the early ,90's. But that is the second battery. As a wild guess I think I bought it 12 years ago and have hardly ever used it.

Really? Those wheels look like thy have done some miles..... shouldnt the treads be plated? Probably another factor in your track power woes!

No mo track power woes.... I have gone battery power and won't go back. It is a True Garden Railway In Canada so there will be lots of wear and tear. I still have to give it a go on the rails but I think the issue is solved.

The "chrome" plating is worn off those wheels, and you are most of the way through the copper, and down to the steel (Aristo uses steel wheels")

So, do I take it you reassembled the motor block and now it works?
