I am trying a second time. I apologize if this goes out twice. Hello. I am AJ from the Houston area and I am new to this group. I am a retired school teacher, church music director and currently repair small engines and riding mowers in the north Houston area. I have a full machine shop inherited from my father at my disposal.

30 years ago I received a Bachmann Big Hauler RC 1st generation set as a present. Eventually I repainted the locomotive and tender to be a Southern Pacific Sunbeam in Daylight colors to match my Aristo-Craft Daylight cars. Recently I upgraded this Bachmann to an "Annie" chassis/motor block and it pulls much better.

25 years ago I had a garden railroad in my back yard. But life got in the way (Lovely wife and 3 daughters/college to pay for etc.) so we moved in 2000 and I stored my trains in our new home. In the past 3 months I have had my interest in G scale trains rekindled. Our house has a large "bonus" room where the attic used to be and I have claimed this area as my train man cave. Lately I have been repainting and re-lettering cars to finish out my passenger sets plus dabbling in kitbashing. I recently added a baggage car to my Bachmann Suwannee River set and I am working on an additional mail car today. My latest project has been a a BNSF hi-rail utility truck.

My next big project is turning my Aristo-Craft 4-6-2 Pacific into a 4-8-4 and I hope to paint it in Daylight colors. I already have an unpainted MTH tender shell and have recently added six wheeled trucks to it.

Thanks for allowing me into your group and being allowed to post. Art "AJ"

Hi AJ,
Welcome!

You have already discovered the wealth of knowledge here, and I am sure you will be able to contribute as well. - I to, have inherited some tooling, but don't know enough to make serious use of it.

Just beware of 'us Brits' and our dodgy jokes!

PhilP

Thanks Mick and PhilP. My Father was a master machinist and it is unfortunate that he passed away before he could pass on more knowledge to me. But he taught me to run a turret lathe and a mill. My wood working skills are much better and they help with my G scale layout in my train man cave. AJ

Welcome to the forum AJ, looking forwards to seeing some home build projects from your Dad’s Shop. A live steamer perhaps?

AJ welcome, load of advice here, and some real dodgy jokes, and we would love photos of your railway endeavours.

How is your layout coming along. I belong to another online group. It is MARSH...since Aug 2008. Marine Aquarium Reef Society of H.town. I like to call it Marsha's. And Sarnia.
