Harz diesel railcar.

I think its a great project. I use plywood too - and I like the idea of casting the ends.
Good stuff Alan. B.T.W. - the Harz railcar (from the front/ends at least) reminds me of the Leeds railcars (trams)!

Is this the birth of a new manufacture of G scale train body kits?

Nice work Alan!

I reckon a few folks would be interested in those ends?

I can envisage a conversion of a cheap NQD coach into something similar to the Harz Railcar....

Nice work Alan, having seen what Neil Ramsay achieves with plywood you're on the right track there. Have you seen his Irish Diesels on GRC? Stunning.

I'm looking forward to seeing your build complete, looking really good so far

Each to thier own Gizzy but,
Given the time and effort that is being put into those end units, the least they deserve is something that looks like a Harz railcar

Looks great. Perhaps you could start building rolling stock as Stockers, GB or SGB for short?

Got any capital to invest Peter?

Nearly there.
The cab ends have been primed and sanded 5 times now and the finish is getting pretty smooth. The light sockets have been cut out - what a fiddle that was.
I am using some 400 wet and dry and it is amazingly fine - takes a lot of sanding just to get through the grey primer (Halfords own). A couple of tiny marks needed filling (the paint was not quite thick enough) and another prime or two and hopefully the final sand over the weekend.

Brillint work Allen, i look forward to following your progress.

Thanks for the pictures 'Mole. A couple there I had not yet got in the research collection!

50p a week OK?

Is that a capital investment or are you after credit terms?:rolf:

Those concerns that you have re the Window surrounds have been pondering me too, but look at the pictire of No. 016 on post 33, have they been painted Creme? I have just gone through my pics off the Railcars and do not have a pic of 016 to see if this is so. May be worth a look.

Or:-
3 possible ways to replicate the windows may be:-

Kitchen Silver Paper - woild be very hard to get flat

Silver Foil Tape used ro secure Laminat Floor Underlay - same as above

Plasticard Window Inserts pre sparayed and put in after paintingbbody - Tricky with all those windows but I think maybee the best option.

All those windows are going to make whatever solution a pain. Some experimentation on a small mock section of windows me thinks.

Two more options for the window surrounds...

Would LGB Harz coach windows look ok? Readily available as a spare part, relatively in-expensive.

Alternatetively look into getting something custom etched in Stainless Steel?

Why not just go for a one piece resin body, once you have completed the master:bigsmile::bigsmile:

Also what about motor blocks? Glendale have some new piko taurus locos sub £150 might be of use.
