Ever since I visited the Harz line last year I have wanted one of those railcars to go with my LGB Harz stock. Grootspoor did a kit recently but at 2000 euro I decided I wouldn't afford it.
So, with help from members of this forum I managed to get the drawings to make my own.
This will be a reasonably scale model (I hope?) at the usual 22.5:1. The power unit may well be a USA trains short bogie. Will only need one, the trailing bogoe will have pick ups though.
Digital decoder, maybe sound - just the hard work to do!

I enlarged the drawings to the full scale I wanted. This is going to be a big blighter - over 30 inches long!

So tonight I started on the sides. I am using 0.8mm plywood from the local aero modellers shop. Reasonably strong but easy to cut with a sharp modelling knife.
I am using wood because its a medium I am well familiar with.:bigsmile:

The cab units will be the most fiddly. Double curves abound in all directions. I am going to try to carve it from balsa. Not sure yet whether to make one and take a mould from it for resin casting or try to make two that end up similar!
The plans:confused:

railcar by Pendelbury model Motive power

Maybe Mike, but we will have to see what a lash up I can make of it first!

Looking forward to seeing this one completed....

Thats looking great Alan and its only just started, can't wait to see this develop into the full blow model.
PS fancy making two........:bigsmile::bigsmile:

Looks a promising start :) I'd never considered aero plywood, but it's a logical choice! Must be easier to carve then my super thick plasticard I'm using on my next project so will watch you're build here with interest. Balsa on the ends sounds a good choice too - although I think I'd be tempted to try and cast it two get two identical ones!

Good start are they drawings from the Scheers & Wall book?

Yes Paul, they are.

Jangs, you go along for years quietly modelling the Harz using LGB products. then someone comes along and shows you how to make what you know is missing from your fleet. Great job of an interesting prototype, will just have to do one sometime.

Busy day with Pendlebury today, but whilst waiting for glue to dry or resin to set, I carved the wooden blank for the cab ends. It doesn't look much in primer but I am pretty pleased with how its come out.
I need to hollow out the light sockets tomorrow, fill any tiny gaps and sand with 400 wet and dry. Then I am going to seal it and take a rubber mould off of it.
