GRS Brakevan conversion kit (and potentially other GRS LGB anglicisation kits too)!

Hi all,
I'm after one of the GRS kits to convert an LGB van into a British outline brakevan, to complete my short rake of repainted LGB open wagons. I believe they did two types, one single balcony based on the "toytrain" single platform van with the opening side doors which was vaguely similar to the W&L brakevans, the other was a double balcony (like a standard gauge LMS brakevan) which I believe was based on a caboose.

Either would be great!

I could also be interested in any of the other GRS conversion kits for the open wagons and vans, again based on the LGB "toytrain" chassis.

I believe the kits were discontinued a few years ago, but I'm hoping someone may have one lurking in the "round tuit" drawer ;)

Cheers!

Matt

I'm sure they still sell the duckets and doors and other bits you could use for your own version.

Must admit I could never really understand why GRS stopped making these conversion kits. Or the fact that they stopped making the W&L rolling stock when Accucraft started making their RTR versions, despite of the fact that GRS made some of the stock that Accucraft didn't (like the modified brakevan).

Hi Matt
Just looked in my box of kits.
I may have what you are after. I have GRS's Narrow Gauge Brake Van Conversion Kit No SG1015. Its a single platform.
I converted to Gauge 1 a few years ago so never got round to making it.
Make me a sensible offer and its yours.
I also have a track cleaning loco, MTS chipped, that I have not got round to selling if interested.

I didn't know they stopped producing the kits. I did my brake van using a toy trains van, GRS duckets, some wood, bits of wire and plasticard.

Another photo ,'cause the last post would only let me do one upload!

That looks great. Really like the added detail - I must do some titivation of my GRS conversion which at the moment looks very slab-like. Thanks for the inspiration!

All of the freight stock on the Claptowte Railway is converted from the Toy Train range. All have been modified using a mixture of GRS kits, GRS parts, plasticard, plastick strip, bent wire and sweat. I have just realised they were photographed from 'the wrong side', as they do not show the plastic strip brake levers.

The low open wagon had the end balcony removed, a razor saw through the body, scribed platicard extension plus other bits. Axel guards from brass strip.

Excellent stuff. Makes me realise how undetailed most of my stock is. I really must get down to doing more fine-detailing. My stock is best viewed from a distance (with eyes partially shut)

PS where do you get your transfers/letteriing from?

The simplest conversion, the stake wagon. Stake height reduced to alter the proportions, tie down rings added from wire and a re-paint.

This one was a bit more complex, highsided open. Balcony cut off, body extended with scribed plasticard, GRS tarpauline rial added, tarpauline tie down cleats from bend wire., brass strip axle guards.
