Sunday evening saw a gathering of the Essex mafia at our place and a good time seemed to be had by all. Lashings of mulled wine, homemade goodies and splendid banter.
As far as trains were concerned....
Well the weather stayed dry-ish although the track remained damp and caused real problems up the inclines. I had cleaned the track three times in some places, as the muck built up as the trains ran.
The little Bachmann christmas trolley was a real sweetie and ran without complaint, non stop on the Quarry shuttle from 8am till night time
The Aristo Christmas Railbus also ran on the 'local' shuttle without hiccups except for one derailment due to a wee stone drifting into a point.
Here it is popping out of the tunnel to run along side the mainline
The real dramas were on the main line for, as the evening descended, the dew together with the accumulating muck on the rails began to give real problems on the inclines as the Annies (especially the Christmas North Pole & Southern) slipped their wheels as they dragged the stock (including a very very heavily frictioned 'sparkly' caboose with stiff plunger pickups) up the slope.
Even the addition of a centre cab diesel did not do the expected as it too slipped its wheels on the slope!
But eventually a troublesome Xmas 'tunes' reefer was removed and it began to work well as two trains following each other
