Got to thinking, how about a thread for the Christmas Stainz since it is getting 'personalized', as Julie who gave it to me says.
With being a railway modeler and a quilter she gets the concept of modifying things to make them fit what you want to do.
After Christmas conversation revealed that she gave it with curiosity about what I would do with it but some anxiety since it was
multiple decades old and not in factory showroom flawless shape.
But she knew I liked to fix things up for my trains and have a number of cars and locos in HO, On30, and G which were intentionally
acquired as rehab and kitbash cases.

Stainz came from a seller in London.
The UK one. There are other Londons.

Yesterday she relayed its online description to me, in the course of our email conversation.

LGB 2010 Engine for G scale Steam Engine with Green Cab 1970s Original Box.
On the funnel there is a sticker which reads: "Locomotivfabrik Krauss & Cie No. 1994 Linz a/d 1889
Made in Germany by Lehmann probably in the 1970s
Used but works very well. Very smooth run. The lights front and back don't work, but that could be just the bulbs.
Some details may been knocked off, I wouldn't know. But the missing buffer is in the box ready to be glued back on.
Original box in good condition with one tear (which you can see in the last photo), but does not compromise the box.

Turned out no other details were loose.
I'm going to replace the bulbs with LED anyway.
Box was quickly mended with the assistance of some Aleen's Tacky craft glue; tear was expanded during its international postal journey, which is not astonishing.

Okay, have posted some photos in Christmas day threads,
let's collect them all in one thread.

Will add 2 photos to this post then make a new post.

Georgie cat, did she really do that?

After a brief debate whether to leave it stock because Julie gave it to me or have a lot of fun with it because Julie gave it to me,
the decision was made to pick up the ball, run with it, and have fun fixing it up for one of my freelance railroad companies.

First thing was take advantage of a warm Christmas Day and prime the cab and frame.
That done, adding parts began Christmas Day night.
First up was rain diverters, rain gutters, drip strips, whichever term suits your railway's vernacular.
A teacup saucer now used for a cat dinner plate was employed as curve template.
Yes, it was clean from the cabinet.

Progress today December 27 was adding American style bell to cab front.
The freelance outfit Stainz is being detailed for uses an international mix of details and practices.
A mystery panel and bolt heads on cab front was used as basis for bell bracket location.
Its location looks strangely high when taken by itself but makes sense when electric generator is added below it.

Oh, forgot to include in previous post that the bell comes from either a Hartland Locomotive Works, HLW, 4-4-0 which had its bell replaced by a Bachmann bell, or an HLW "Sparky" trolley steeplecab locomotve which likewise had its bell replaced.

Steam turbine electric generator shown is from a Bachmann Big Hauler 4-6-0 in Virginia & Truckee which is being backdated.
Might end up getting a more detailed generator, STEAM GENERATOR(KIT) (1)

Whistle will be mounted on engineer's side of steam dome.
Will likely be one of this, FLAT TOP WHISTLE (1)

Another detail to be added will be classification and marker lamps, which will be lighted,

Another note: where the seller's description said,
But the missing buffer is in the box ready to be glued back on.
Looking closely at photo of loco in box shows where buffer is not on front of loco.
A spot of the glue shown in photo below held it well enough for the mounting pin to be pulled out of frame by pulling on buffer.
Mended buffer is one at feet of the crewman, not one in front of glue used,
Oh, and this morning the base was cut off the guy, he now stands on his own 2 feet.

Stainz now has a different smokestack cap & a second crewman has been added using a figure from Preiser's track workers kit.
Am placing him on right side & calling him the engineer/driver.

Flickr appears to be dysfunctional at present, so photos will be done with the attachment function.

Ideas for this critter's eventual paint job include:

One based on Baldwin styles 4 and 37 as illustrated here,
PacificNG.org

The other idea would require repainting the wheel spokes; one of my 3 freelance RRs uses this color scheme,

Some New Years Eve Stainz progress: she's getting an American style headlight with a blindingly bright 10mm LED.
Because, hey, you've heard about what kind of things go lurking in the midnight shadows on semi-tropical islands ...
