Can't turn on the RC of my PLaymobil

The switch does not work. The loc as not been used for a long time. So I have charged the batteries in the loc and in the RC. I opened it and as you can see it was very dirty. I used a WD-40 special spray for all electric/electronic parts.

I managed to switch it once and operate the loc but could not turn it off, so I removed the battery, which disconnected the loc but when I put the battery back, I could no longer have it going.

Only one out of the three little switches underneath was working, the one for the sound.

Has anyone experienced the problem? Is there a solution or should I try to find a new one or something else to operate the loc? Thanks for your answers.

Many thanks! I understand better now how the putton works. Before the switch stopped working, there was a period when it was possible to turn it on by pressing the side, which makes sense after watching the video.

A friend of mine proposed to replace the buttons and I should meet him this week to hand over the rc and the loc.

Thanks Playmofire, I appreciate your help. As I wrote above, I shall probably have a solution this week so I won't disturb John Hulse if there is no need to.

May I step in with an observation/complaint about the Playmobil transmitter. My young grandson can operate the transmitter, sort of. There is a tendency for him to press the "channel" button , which disconnects the loco from the transmitter. Just when I get the thing going for him and decide to sit and watch him play, he presses the channel button..........Then Poppi has to get up and re-connect it to the loco.

Put something over the channel button

Put something over the channel button

I've tried tape, but GS#3s little fingers still seem to have enough strength to accidentally press the button, even under the tape. Maybe I'm not seeing the wisdom of the engineers at Playmobil. Why have two channels ?

'Cos Poppy and GS#3 could both play together..

You can change the channel on the loco as well..

Yes, I am aware of that. That is where the confusion is. If GS#3 changes the channel on the transmitter the loco won't run, unless someone, most likely me becomes aware of what he did. I could understand if each of us had a separate loco and each of us had a separate transmitter. Please bear with me as I can be pretty dense.....
