although my Dad played the pipes:



We are of English and Scottish descent, my Dad always wanted to play the pipes, and he finally learned in the early 90's and joined a band, the Penn-York Highlanders of Athens PA.

W. Britain makes some pipers:
10009 - Black Watch Pipes and Drums, Piper, Early 20 Century

I will have to look for some for the railroad!

Update! new video.
This video is actually from 2 weeks ago!
Same day as the "first train run" video, posted above..
I wanted to do a second video that same day, to talk more about my Dad's work train, the new track arrangement on the bridge, and how long it took to get to the point of running the first train!

New video! My former Bachmann "connie", now a 2-8-2, just barely makes it around 8-foot diameter curves! She wont run there regularly, i'll keep her on the wider lower loop..

Update! The final video for 2018. Got a lot accomplished this year!
Now begins the 5-month indoor model building season, also known as "winter"..

Its the original stock Bachmann chassis. Other than replacing the main drive gear, the 2-8-0 mechanism is unmodified. I stretched out the frame to make it a 2-8-2, and moved the cab further back.

Its the original stock Bachmann chassis. Other than replacing the main drive gear, the 2-8-0 mechanism is unmodified. I stretched out the frame to make it a 2-8-2, and moved the cab further back.

Correct! it *just barely" makes it around 8-foot diameter curves. But the lower loop on my garden railroad is going to be 14 foot diameter, and the shows my garden RR club does always has 12 to 15 foot diameter, so this particular locomotive will never need to run on 8-foot diameter ever again..so it will be happy.
