Building the Sharknose

Hi all
A little more progress to report. I got all the decals on and I also fitted the etched side grills after painting the hollow area behind each one in satin black. I just brush painted around the edge of each one afterwards to cover any glue lines. I will mask off the boarders and center bars to the grills and airbrush some black over them.

I also fitted the radiator grill cover after painting the fans in silver and the background in satin black. I also fitted the cab and rear steps and the rear corridor connection.
I cut out some number boards from clear plastic and put the decals on the outside, then I painted the rear of them in black, leaving thin lines behind the numbers so the light can shine through :D
Next will be a coat of varnish to seal everything and a bit of weathering following glazing the cab.
Cheers
Rob

Read it and weep..... :crying:
Excellent modelling

Incredible finish on a superb base shell, great kit, great modelling, I only hope I can get a similar finish on my Faur Lxd2 kit. Inspiring!

Hi Sharkfans
Been busy again today on the Sharknose, I fitted the builders plates that I had made and I will now be able to supply these to fellow Sharkers at £18 a pair including post, get in touch to order.

I also made some lifting lugs/eyes for the big roof panel, I just made them up from some scrap nickel and put 0.7mm rod through for bolt heads and soldered them all up, leaving a spigot to go into the loco body. I etch primed them and put them on ready for painting in green.

I also made the sand box covers for the front, either side of the nose. I just made these out of plastic bits and mounted them on brass rods to help locate them.

I made the two lifting eyes for the rear door suround out of plastic card and added some brass washers. Again these were fitted and are waiting a coat of green.

I made up some rear mounts for either side of the rear coupling. Again made from brass and soldered together, with the coiled up multiple hoses, buckeye release bar and main air pipe stub all soldered on. this is now in etch primer waiting paint. I will drill into the body and fit these under the rear wall.

I did a test peice with different mix ratio's of gloss and satin varnish so that I could see what I needed to do to get the finish I want. I am happy with that now and hope to get her varnished this week.
Cheers

Hi all
I have managed to get the etcher to agree to do different numbers on the builders plates but they will cost a little more as he must change the artwork.
For the standard plate that you see on my loco which is from NYC/D&H #1216 it is £18 a pair, if you want a specific number/loco then these will be £22 a pair, all prices include postage.
I do not have the info on what loco's had what numbers, so you will have to get that info yourselves, sorry. Any pointers would be great though!
I will build up the list of people and then place the order so it might take a couple of weeks.
Also the plate in the picture looks quite yellow but they are done in nickel so they look much lighter in real life.
Please get in touch by either email or PM for ordering.
Cheers
Rob

Here is a link to Rob's Baldwin SharkNose diesel kit Thread showing the full list of Baldwin manufacturers numbers for all the different Baldwin Shark's owners, including the long-nosed BLW Demo unit and the PRR DR4-4-15 (RF15) (using an RF16 carbody style).

Rob's kit is for the mainstream Baltimore & Ohio (B&O), New York Central (NYC), Monongahela (MGA) and Delaware & Hudson (D&H) units

Hi all
Just an update to say that I have ordered all the builders plates as everyone has now paid that expressed an interest.
Thanks again and I will let you know when they arrive.
Cheers

No progress at all I'm afraid, I have been too busy on other things and also I have been on the wrong shifts to get much work done anyway.

On a positive note the etched builders plates arrived yesterday so I hope to get them out to everyone in the post today.

Cheers
Rob

Rob, Just got the builders plates and they are fantastic. Thank You. Do you have any pics of the back of your shark with the frame and hoses you built? Jack

Hi Jack
Glad they got there ok and that you like them. I will get some shots of the rear of the shark for you and post them up here. I did a test spray with some varnish yesterday on another loco, I mix my own to from gloss and satin to get just the right sheen and it went very well, so I hope to get her sprayed this week.
Cheers
Rob

Loosing your bottle !!!

Well my G scale Sharks arrived and due to remodelling my home, these are currently untouched and as people know what Rob's kits look like anyway I don't need to post any pictures of them, and although I just recently missed out by £50 to purchase an additional pair of Rob's G scale sharks on ebay. I did see these after reading about the owners sale on the Yahoo PRR forum.

This is the reason I wanted the extra pair ...

I thought using these HO scale models as a reference for a conversion of the second pair of G scale Sharks would suffice, must admit you have got to have some to do this.
