Hi All,
Silly question time. I have removed body from my little John loco and noticed some debris between the positive and negative terminals on the battery. Being a bit of a worrier I am wondering if there is any likelihood of a short. Not sure if debris is metal or not.

Thanks Alan.

Not knowing what the debris is, I would certainly clean it out carefully with something non-metallic.....!

Jon.

Doesn't sound good. I'd definitely have a clean up. Use an old paint brush (carefully). If you're really keen, some non conductive grease will keep the terminals clean & dry

Simple question - is the loco working?

If it is - there's no short, but best to clean things up - gently :mask::mask:

But, if there is a potential (no pun) short lurking in there, do we *really* want to turn it on and possibly complete the loop??:shake::shake:

Get some decent light on it, to try to identify what it is..
?Possibly? remove the two cells the debris is between? - If individual cells in a holder, and you can easily remove them.
Might even need the 'pointy' end of said paintbrush to dislodge whatever it is??

A picture would be a great deal of help if you can manage one.

Hi all,
Many thanks for your help and replies. The batteries are partially sealed in a pack. The terminals are under a clear plastic which is what the debris was sticking to. Difficult to get to but I have removed the worst of the debris carefully with a cocktail stick. Will post a picture later. Once again many thanks for your advice.

Regards Alan.

What colour is said debris. Black? metallic?

It looked metallic. I have removed all I can see now, don’t know how it got there, but I have now run loco and all apppears to be ok.

Regards Alan.

it is not gear wear, is it?

It’s not the gears as they are nylon. Think it was there before I bought loco, as I have not run loco much yet. Could’nt See debris anywhere else, a mystery. Thanks for your help.

Regards Alan.

Sounds like a bit of swarf..

Whether from battery manufacturer (if not in-house), or Roundhouse (I think for Little John) we may never know..
