bashing playmobil 5258

Dave Hub

everyting
As its too cold outside, and having a 12 week old baby takes most of my time I decided to do a small conversion to my playmobil 5258.

It is nothing prototypical, (when do I do prototype?) Its just me rummaging through the spares box adding bits to make it look more like a locomotive than a toy.

Various pics in various stages, from nothing added, then I put the walk ways down, then added mesh onto the steps to give them texture, (health and safety needs grip).

The mechanics need access to the gubbins inside so doors have been made and stuck to the rear. A big ugly air tank added, and a huge fan, its going to be a big heavy industrial shunt loco, which is practical before eye pleasing.

I tried to stick a new grill on, this then slipped as the araldite set. so is ever so slightly wonky.

A few more pics,
I know its not finished, I still need to detail the front, and sort out the air pipes etc. hope to be done by weekend.

P.S. I'm stumped what colour to paint it, I have a can of BR blue left, though was thinking grubby black to represent its industrial background any other suggestions?

Those are pretty neat addons matey, well done you

Nice conversion job Dave. Personally I'd keep it in industrial yellow, but with some "zebra stripes" on the ends of the chassis and possibly the body ends. Some black Trimline in a V pattern perhaps?

By the way, where did you get those nice electrical sockets?

Thanks chaps,

Peter the electrical sockets are Ozark miniatures. I ordered them ages ago for a different project and never used them so thought they'd fill a hole on this wee beastie.

thats a neat upgrade to it, certinly looks the part:thumbup:

Hi Dave

Looking good
There was a dark blue one in a private yard something to do with Gas out side Birmingham a few years ago

This is going to look superb what ever colour you paint it, but a different shade of yellow would suit , like the British Steel loco's I remember from my Youth:thinking:

That looks very good, really sharpens it up.

I'd thought maybe a dayglo or near dayglo orange with a white stripe above the grab rails or else a stronger yellow.

Ok folks,
A little more work done today, the old square buffers have been removed via a rotary tool, and nice new sprung buffers have been added.
also I got around to adding the MU boxes to the front of the loco.

All that is left before painting is to finish securing the air tanks and pipe work.

Thanks for the ideas of colour, I'd still like to hear any more.

Ok folks its been a while since I did anything with this so I cracked on and its kind of finished.

I would like to weather it quite heavily when I get chance but for now it'll do.
I used paints that I had left from previous projects, the same as the waterslide transfers. many of these photos are taken as close ups and seem to highlight all my poor handy work but it does pass the 4ft rule.

cheers

Certainly transforms the Playmo into something more realistic Dave....

outstanding, bugger the 4ft rule, i like it

Thanks for the nice comments,
This little project took a lot longer than expected considering it was a spares box raid ad a repaint. Still I suppose that's the joy of having a 3 month old baby demanding your time.

I do love the sound on this little beastie and now I have added a little lead it should slow it down and help the tractive effort.

Does that comment refer to loco or baby? I'm confused.....

Great job as usual Dave. Will Pootank Pass have the pleasure?

Yes Peter I'll bring the little chappie along, see if it can make the pass.
