Must be during the last 10 years Tony? I think it was in 2008 and I took it just after that quay side crane had been damaged. I've attached the photo of the crane and the other one of the loco.
I didn't even know that Felixstowe Docks had a Rolls Royce Sentinel until I saw it that day, working down to the exhange sidings near Felixstowe Beach Station. In fact, I wondered if it had been an imported DB V60 at first, until enquiries revealed otherwise?
It's the only time I have seen it in action and the better of 2 photos I took of it on the day....
B******d even!
The Rolls Royce Sentinel looks identical to a couple used on the Trafford Park private railway system. One of them once pulled an entire train off the track on a tight curve along Westinghouse Rd. Just like a Hornby Dublo derailment!
They used to be parked adjacent to the Kellogs factory but no longer. I wonder what happened to them?
Im wondering if they had two as 2008 isnt that long ago and the one in your photo looks quite clean il have a look on monday and take a few pics..... im just hoping its still parked up and not been scraped....it was there earler this year i am sure and looking very sad

AFAIK, Felixstowe only had the one, plus an 08 shunter. I heard that they had to hire a second Class 08 as although the Sentinel was very powerful (see Keith's comment), it wasn't very reliable....
I nearly brought a cheap one once, as it had broken barriers, but I couldn't think where I would put it on my own layout. Especially as I'm mostly double tracked.
It works by the weight of a train passing over the crossing, lowering the barriers, so it's not very realistic in operation....
