Bachmann GE 45 Tonner into British outline 0-4-0 Diesel

Hi All, I had Friday off and I decided to do a bash with what I had in the garage. I am only learning at this kind of thing.

A year or so ago I bought one of these bachmanns for £70 but it didn't fit my railway and unless you polished the tracks it didn't run well, so it was in the "parts bin". I also wanted something battery powered for ease of running.

It is half the centre cab turned through 90 degrees and the roof dropped an inch. I used one bonnet also dropped this time by about two inches. The rest is styrene sheet. The only cost was£30 for a battery, charger and dpdt centre off. It pulls 6 bogie stock easily. The picture is still wet paint so a bit shiney. I will proably distress it a little....

But a nice little loco to watch running round for £30 and a days fun in the garage... Still have the bits for another 0-4-0 from the other end!

thanks mel. the photo is disapointing as the paint finish and tone is better with the naked eye. still i think it needs dulling somehow - any ideas?

Best bet is probably a coat of satin or matt varnish mate, depending on how dull you want it.

Thats brill, I looked at that and wondered if it could be something else never thought about it being two seperates, neat, reminds me of a ruston in a quarry I saw too long ago

I used a 7.2v 3000mah battery and charger from an RC car. It runs just the right speed- which is fairly slow! Switch was just one of the shelf of Maplin.

A nice little bash there!
I can imagine that it is quite powerful as the motor block was fairly hefty.

For dulling down, if you want it matt I would thoroughly recommend Testors Dullcote.....best there is

Nice bit of work (and lateral thinking!).
I presume the switch is forward or reverse?

I've being toying with the idea of making "2 out of 1" from my big lump - but would like to make a US type - but can't find any piccies.

Thanks Ian.

Nice bash mate!

Are you going to make another with the other bogie....

Nice work Ian looks Fantastic
