I do have UV protected Krylon clear spray in matte and gloss on the shelf. I assume you didn't mean to suggest hand polishing?
Anyone else used Thomas bigscale coaches?

Well, this automotive paint is interesting. The can says it is acrylic-laquer, and it is unlike any rattle-can enamel I have tried. It seems very thin, and it dries very quickly - you can re-coat in a few minutes. As it is thin, it settles in to the various depressions and runs off the high spots. This is after about 5 or 6 coats, including one very thick coat that I sprayed on then turned the car on its side so the wet paint was upwards.
As I only have 2 cans, I resolved to have another go just painting across the window frames to see if I could add some coverage (!) This morning I did at least 4 more coats and here's the result.
It's not perfect, but it will have to do as I am out of paint. I wouldn't call it 'crimson lake' nor would I say it was very shiny, but hey, you can't have everything.
Someone commented the trucks/bogies look wrong. That side view shows they are indeed too short and need to extend closer to the ends. Not sure I want to be bothered to fix them.

Not likely. I have about 10 other projects to start, including a bunch of Gilpin tramway ore cars in SM32 and 45mm.
The coach started as 2 'emily' coaches and 2 'annie and clarabell'. The 6-wheel underrframes are under annie and clarabell and I have sanded off the eyes and noses. A little panelling on the ends and some paint and they will make decent 6-wheelers. I even thought of rolling the edges of the roof to be more NBR. The 2x 4-wheel underframes got chopped and made into this coach. Not much was wasted.
I finished repainting the ducketts and took another pic, which persuaded me to move the trucks. This is a composite of both sides, and the coach is now done until I think of something else to add, like vents, or longer trucks! The bottom pic is after I moved the trucks outwards.
I've been looking at this drawing while working on the conversion, and I am fairly happy. I definitely need to paint those bright red buffer shanks.

Yes, way too short, and bothering me more now it is on the shelf over my desk! Where do I find some, or parts for them? They are about 2.5" wheelbase now, probably need to go to 3.5" to look good. I hesitate to say I need scale 10' Midland bogies as I'm not sure what scale this is anyway! 2.5" is 4' 8" in 1:22.5, so a 3.5" bogie would be 6' 6". Maybe I need longer?
Does any vendor make Gauge-3 coach bogies/trucks? Gauge-1 at 1/32nd or 10mm will be too short.
While we're on the subject of improvements, can you identify the GRS roof to which you refer? Their website is very difficult to navigate.

Just looking at my G3 journal. Following may be of use size wise.
WalsallModels do BR mk1 bogies, ok I know too modern but may take some adaption to suit.
Peter.Korzilius@googlemail.com also does BR Mk1 but at £168a pair may be a bit much.
GRS do quite a few G3 bits and bobs so may have bogies.
Slaters are also into G3 and do Coach Wheels so there may be more on their webb site.
Appletreerailwaytimothy. On face book also offers sundry G3 bogies.
Sorry nothing specific, G1 may be a better bet for something more like or else try to get someone to 3d Cad for you.

I think this is the end. I took down my Annie & Clarabell coaches, which have the Emily underframes with 3 axles and step boards (and look much better for it, imho,) and made new ends from styrene. They were sprayed 'warm caramel' which left them a bit darker.
I painted the coaches with yellow ochre, and then mixed in a little spanish tile to tone down the new ends.
The deliberate brush strokes, designed to make it more like wood/teak, didn't show too well, so I used a trick from Paulfwalker at the start of this thread, to wash it with black to bring out the details. It worked! Of course, his look a lot nicer, but I'm happy with them.

Well, 2 years later, this project surfaced after I discovered David Leech would sell me a couple of G-1 LMS 9-ft trucks/bogies. [David makes coaches and is based in Canada.]
I think he 3D prints the sides of the trucks, and they are nicely equalized and have great looking wheels. I had to create footboard supports and make longer footboards. Here's the result.
