Another new van for the PLR

Decided I needed another van to handle the fruit traffic on the railway - so this time I bashed a Newqida box car (£18.99 + P&P).

A bit too long, a bit too continental and a bit too yellow for the PLR!!

So, after some surgery with a razor-saw and a few coats of paint......

I think it looks OK. Need to give it a good test-run (weather permitting) to check it works OK - but plenty of detailing on the model to save me the trouble.
Will weather it once the paint has fully hardened.

Fantastic result. These vans do convert well (with commitment like yours, of course!).

Van #2 now well under way, thanks to the kind donation of another van body from a fellow modeller - what a great community this is.

Same technique as previously - end panels removed and ends glued back on to what remains

As the bottom slide for the doors is part of the chassis, I had to make my own from plasticard .....

...... and then use a bisected HLW chassis.

Needs a bit of tidying-up - a few gaps to be filled here and there and of course a paint-job. Oh yes, plus couplings and brake gear. Probably about three hours' work so far - but who's counting?

Thought it might be useful. Sometimes bashes take longer than you expect - but having done one before, this one went together quite quickly. Would have taken less time if I had got the Newqida chassis to go with it.

Second van now more or less finished. A little bit of tidying and of course weathering needed.

The HLW chassis worked out quite well - provided you don't look too closely.

Here's the new with the old.

Quite pleased with the outcome.

I heard that if you take a soldering iron it will melt a dent .. I've seen it done to hoppers sides and the tops rails .

I did exactly that process to some LGB Feldbahn Hoppers yonks ago, but do not touch with the Iron a close call is all that is required then a gentle push with a Screwdriver or something else will work. But worthwhile to experiment on a kit sprue to understand what you are likely to achieve.
