Another Loco on the Cheap Using Piko 0-6-0 Chassis

Started building another loco, British style side tank using a new Piko chassis bought from g-bits.co.uk. I will eventually build a saddle tank but am happy with this little loco for working in and out of the sidings of my new line which is still without a name, perhaps it should be Cheapskate Junction. Love the loco. It's going to be similar to my 'Lexie' built on the same chassis. MIne runs well on just 4 AA cells.

Can you access the gears simply by removing all the screws underneath because I want to add extra pickups.

Yes the bottom comes off easy and nothing flies apart! here's a pic.

But I don't know how you'll add more pickups - there's just 4 wheels on the rails, and they all have pickups now.

Its been a busy weekend with funerals on the WSR (I'm the funeral escort) so not much work on the 0-6-0 but I have made a start on the backhead and water gauge. I will save the description until the controls are fitted (from Cambrian's excellent 16mm range) and the firehole door is made and fitted hopefully with LED fitted to fire. Here are 3 photos of the work so far.

Progress has been made and the water gauge is in place along with the 2 steam feeds and firehole door. The copper pipes are copper but the brass is painted. I use gold paint and when a wash of dirt is added the gold mellows to a good brass colour. Here is a picture of the item so far.

Things have moved on quickly so here are a couple of photos. Haven't written up the blog yet but having sprayed the little loco I found I didn't much like the balance of the chassis and body. Scan of the books showed her to be very close to the Bideford, Appledore and Westward Ho! loco so she has been fitted with motion covers. Weight has to be added soon and the smokebox door fitted then the cowcatchers made and it will be time to finish the cab.
Somebody mentioned some weeks ago that some good domes could be had from product tops. This
little loco now sports a dome made from a Nivea Mens deodorant top, £2 from Tescos and looks good.
