Hello Fellow G Train Enthusiasts!

One of my friends recently purchased an electric Accucraft Southern Pacific Daylight GS-4 locomotive. Unfortunately, it arrived without the tender and will not function without a tender.

My friend (A mature veteran) asked me for help in locating a tender. This electric Accucraft GS-4 in 1/32 routes all of the controls through the tender. (Not unlike the last metal side-rod Aristo-Craft Pacifics etc.) I have spoken to Accucraft about any help and they emailed 3 wiring diagrams and a manual. It was very nice of them to speak with me.

My friend Rick really needs a tender. I am open to anyone's suggestions on who might have one or how he might procure one. Thanks AJ the Teacher

Since you are already in the USA, you can phone up Channing Cheng.

Anyhow, if not, I'll ask on his behalf, as he'll likley be here at the Peterborough. Who buys a huge great loco like this without checking that a little thing like a tender is not part of the deal? Is it a 'War Baby' or 'Southern Daylight version - easy to tell - one is all back and the other one is red/orange striping.....

I agree, especially since the loco won't run without the tender, surprised someone would buy a loco without seeing it running. You may have to buy an Aristo tender and wire it up.

Greg

Good luck with that one, Greg. I've seen an Aristocraft electric Mike at the last show in Llangollen, Mike, but the guy wanted not far short of $900 for it. Anyhow, the Aristo model is 1/29th, and the GS4 is 1/32nd - AND it would need painting to match the loco...

As for finding an MTH version...............................................

Thanks Greg and Tac for your suggestions. The GS-4 is in the Daylight paint scheme.

Channing Cheng has been very helpful. I have sent him pictures of the locomotive and the 6 wire plug exiting the locomotive. (I spent quite a bit of time using a Fluke meter checking the routing of the wires etc,) The diagrams that he sent me were put to good use.

Rick (the owner) purchased it online without seeing it run. He is new to the hobby and liked the way it looked. (And he bought the engine without realizing that it needed a tender. (But he purchased it for a very reasonable price.) It is an absolutely gorgeous locomotive.

The locomotive ran today for the 1st time. It runs well. (I was able to take power from my tender and route it to the two main heavier gauge wires in the center of the 6 wire plug on the locomotive.)

Rick purchased an MTH 1/32 Southern Pacific Daylight GS-4 tender shell from Perry at perrystoyexchange which will be arriving this week. I took my MTH 1/32 SP Daylight tender to his venue on Friday, and we were very surprised that the paint colors matched and that the colors including the silver lines separating the colors ALL lined up perfectly.

As always, I do appreciate everyone's advice and support. It is so much easier solving problems with the assistance of such a kind and knowledgeable group. AJ the Teacher

Yes, there is nothing worse than a "near" match. Usually in the hobby industry, where there are well known liveries used on subject matter, there tends to be a policy to use set colour codes/mixes across all makers. Benefit - you wont get sales resistance from the very enthusiasts you want to buy your, expensive to tool and stock, model. I have seen what happened to a very well known die cast maker when they decided to use their very own interpretation of a famous race car team's livery colour. The main colour was very slightly off. Result - a lot of the models ended up in the "close out" bin. Max

I can't possibly imagine why the MTH and Accucraft models match so well.....:wondering:
Hello Tac,
I just think that Rick is REALLY lucky. It does seem strange to me also that these two 1/32 manufacturers match up so well. But I am grateful.
