3D Printing Help

This is really embarrassing. I need to find a good reference for what set settings to use on my Ender-3 S1 with the Creality Slicer 4.8.2 software.
When I try to print the pre-canned "Benchy" I get this:Benchy.jpg
I have tried other models with similar results.up documents
This was done with a nozzle temp of 232 C and a bed temp of 60 C, with the fan at 100%.
I have found multiple YouTube videos on setup, as well as set of instructions, but have had no luck finding operating instructions, but nothing that gives explanations for the available settings in either the slicing software or on the machine itself.

Looks to me as if you've not got the first layer adhering to the bed. Have you levelled the bed?

As ge_rik has said, first layer needs to adhere properly to the bed.

IIRC the E3S1 has an auto bed level (ABL) sensor. Whilst this is great for dealing with a slightly warped bed, you should manually level the bed first. I would suggest using a 0.1mm feeler gauge (or some other known thickness) to feel the gap between the nozzle and the bed.
This can be achieved by auto home, manually moving the head to one corner (E3S1 may have a feature to help with this), lower the Z height to 0.1mm, measure and adjust if required.

However, I suspect that if you are not putting down first layers with an ABL sensor equipped printer, then your z-offset may be set incorrectly. There should be something in the manual for setting z-offset on the E3S1.

*edit - noticed you are using Creality's own slicer software - not a biggy, but I would suggest using something like CURA.
 
Are you printing on a raft? I always print on a raft , asit gives greater adhesive grip .and helps level the bed.
Also what are you using for filament.
Tried others, but pla + is so easy to print with
 
Feel free to PM me. I've been 3D printing since about 2009, so have a little experience and have made all the common errors many times..

It looks like your Z offset is incorrect, and I would suggest for PLA you only need a temperature of 190-210C. What slicer are you using?

Initial setup is key to good printing. Tramming (setting the bed height correctly), Z offset, ESteps and Flow rate need to be correct.

I've never used rafts, as I find textured mats give excellent adhesion - sometimes too good, while when I swap to a glass bed for when I need a smoother bottom surface, I use a little hairspray.

I have tried raft, brim and skirt. I am using std PLA, as it is what I have on hand. Once I get the basics figured out I will order some PLA +

I am willing to try most anything. I am not finding anything on z offset in the literature. Any idea what ranges I might experiment with?

Auto home the print head, If you disable the step motors, in the display menu, you can then move it across the print bed.
Ender recommend it being a paper thickness away from the print bed, all across the bed..you should be able to see the Molton pla coming out of the print head, and liying on the print bed.. dose it lift off? Straight away?....
Can you print a single layer...with it still attached to the bed?.
The problem could be meny things..
Your photo is the symptom, not the problem..

So..make sure your printer is set up square and true...you belts are tight...axes set ..
Bed level...temps set as required...have you tried to print the *free* 3d designs that came with the printer?.[on the micro sd card? They will be set up correctly ect..

The model is from Creality. I do not have the original files from the SD card, My daughter in law reformatted it when we were first setting it up. :banghead:g
She is experienced with 3d printing, but not familiar with Ender...
I have checked the Creality site and not found the files that were on the card originally.

I see the moltan pla, and it is not initially sticking.

I have been experimenting with temps and z offsets...
 
Where is your printer?

What temperature is the room? - Does it get cold, during an overnight print?

Though I have not got a 3D printer, so any ideas I have are definitely only worth what you have paid for them!

It is in my office. The temps average around 68F (20C)
 
My advice is get a BLTouch and fit it, if you do not have auto bed levelling, I had a similar issue when I first got my Ender3V2 the nozzle was dragging the print across the bed surface.
And look at the bed levelling screws the Creality ones are not that strong and do not stay in their adjusted position, I upgraded mine as well as fitting the BLTouch and my adhesion issues went away.
I always clean my print bed with Isopropol Alcohol between prints.

You need the original files on the card
Otherwise the printer will -can forget..you also need a small ,( thing it's 8mg ) card ,not a bigger micro sd card, as this too can bugger it up..
