Well you know how it is.
Theres been a lot of discussion about how the hobby has changed, and the need
or otherwise to scratchbuild. For me, its a hobby which fulfils my urge to make stuff, so although I
buy models I also try and make them. There is a problem, a big problem, though - I have the craft
skills of a leper and the artistic eye of a housebrick. Even SWMBO recognises that my hidden DIY
talents are best left hidden; "You earn it and I'll pay someone else to do it properly". I am envious
of many on this forum who turn their hands to producing models of great excellence, but recalling
Cyrils harrowing account of his experiences in 00 I pretty much know where I stand.
Now, I haven't given up - nor will I. I try everything, usually only once, but I try. Mel waves his
airbrush over a model and its weathered - mine looks like the inside of an H block. Paul (stainz)
sprays his engines black and they look great - I get a silhouette on the toolrack behind my bench. Mick
made hinges for his engine shed doors - I quit long before the doors.
So, I fight Inadequacy with the Sword of Innovation. There must be craft techniques out there I can
master which will help me produce models I can be proud of, or even just be prepared to show anybody
else. Join me in my latest step......
Have a look at some of the work Andrey Kuznetsov does - his site is in Russian

Now this clever bloke takes pictures of a vehicle and produces an HO scale card kit with only a few
hours work. I've tried motorising card kits in the past, and they just look like card kits no matter
what you do. As these are based on pictures they look so much better.
Anyway, I found this kit on his website http://papertrolley.ucoz.ru/load/5-...t some trucks and see if we can make it go.
