Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway - June Update.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Well things have moved on a lot since my last post and the railway now forms a complete loop, at last.

I did run a small test train this morning and all was ok apart from the normal list of tweaks and leveling now needed along with a lot more ballasting. I may now play for a while before doing much more though.

The next few pictues show all the path crossings now in place and thankfully working ok.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

These next couple of pics show the track running through the shed, which now has a better lock and inside fitted hinges to help with security, and the the two top loops round dog/washing area and round/through shed area if that makes sense.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Just a couple more to end on for today.

The new basic station layout and the kink on the other side of garden which used to be the station are in place.

As you can see there is a lot of ballasting, planting and work on bringing station area to life still to go but that can wait for another sunny day.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Found one more from bottom of garden round by pond i have not uploaded yet so here goes.

This shows the inner and outer parts of loop as the train works its way up and down the garden.

This new railway has roughly doubled the track and time it takes a train to leave and arrive back at station. It used to be about 50secs now its just over 1 min 33 secs which i know is nothing to write home about but something i am pleased about none the less.

I will sort out some better pictures and track plan soon along with an update on my youtube channel with new and old ride on's to show the difference's.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Jason i love the way you have blended the railway into the garden i can imagine its possible to still use the garden without the railway being in the way. maybe not for football but as a family space
well done. Food for thought

Great work Jason looking really nice

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

That is looking good. I think I have worked out your folded loop track layout - nice use of space to increase the run length.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Thanks guys for the positive comments.

I think this is a garden with a railway in it rather than the other way round as i have to share the great outdoors with my better half and she has a passion for planting and creating a scale model is just not possible and after thinking long and hard about it i am not sure thats what i am after. I just like to sit back and watch my favourite locos tail chase the afternoon away.

I have now wired in the station area points to work remotely via my Massoth handset and ballasted the area as well which has changed the look of that part of the railway. Pictures to follow during the week on this.

I have used MS Paint to create a very basic track plan, not to any sort of scale but just to give you all an idea of what i have now laid down.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

It is great to see the pics and to follow the progress you are making.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

Steve got a picture from the old railway showing pond and bridge, this is one of the few sections untouched by the new 2010 changes.

The pond is more or less rectangular and is about 5 odd foot by 3 odd foot in size and came fully formed.

The bridge uses ext grade ply for the base as i don't want to upset the fish water when running live steam and all the rubbish it dumps on it way round.

The frame work is some old treated wood i had lying about that i ripped into 1cm2 strips using my old table saw.

To stop the bridge touching the water when a train runs over it i have got two plastic drain pipes underneath to help support the whole lot.

Thats about it, i will try and dig out an even older picture showing the old smaller pond and the bigger bridge i had before.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

AT last finished all the shelving in train shed and now all stock is in place and ready to roll at a moments notice.

This is going a be a massive improvement for me as before everything had to be carried from the garage watching out for the rabbits running a round and i often never bothered to run everything i planned to.

Thats the good news but the next post contains bad news though so brace yourself.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

I then decided that i had done enough work and it was about time i got some trains and played, sorry that should be tested, the new railway.

I put a couple of trains out on the track and it was then i realized i had built the station to short and the siding was the wrong way round and was blocked by the wagons the engine was pulling.

So i sat down had a cuppa and thought about what to do next.

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

testring boss, er jasion, it needsa lot off testing!!

Re:Work on The Waterloo Creek Railway starts.

I knew i had to do something and so i lifted the old station area and re laid it moving point back and increasing passing loop size to allow longer trains to pass with ease.

I then swapped the end the engine siding was located so that when an engine was pulled into the passing loop it could be uncoupled and held in siding.

It was a little dissheart'ng to lift all this after i had ballasted it all in but i knew it would only get on my nerves if i had left it as it was.
