Will lgb 65006 digital sound retro fit work on old 2051 loco?

I bought this on eBay, not realizing that it was for the digital version of the V 51 Loco. I

have a 2095 OBB diesel and a 2051 DB diesel. These are standard analog boards. Is there a way I can simply add power to this board and get sound ?

The board is designed for the MTS/MFX? Board.

I don’t want to destroy this board with experimentation. I would love to be able to use it , off of DC track power, as I really like the sound features, but I may simply have bought something that won’t work Thoughts comments, and direction greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I fitted a 65001 to a V52 diesel, and used it on DC, before I upgraded to DCC (MTS).

The sound worked when the power control was turned on.

I found with practise, I could turn the control to just above zero, stopping the loco but maintaining the sounds.

I was using the ART Train Engineer in those days, fed from a LGB transformer, then later a ART PSU....

Well, I appreciate the advice, but im asking about the 65006, different unit. Designed to fit on a digital board.

I appreciate your point, but it still might work on analogue DC.

My 65001 had to be programmed with the same address as my V52 loco so that both worked together on my MTS and later Massoth 1200Z.

I would have assumed that Maerklin would have made it work, both for DC and DCC, but you might have to check the documentation for the 65006 to be certain....

I did read that thread. I just didnt want a $200 experiment to go bad…so i was hoping for someone who had actually used it analogue. Its also extra caution because i know so little about dcc.

Ill give it a try when it arrives. Unless someone cautions otherwise in the interim.

I think your only problems will be if you need to alter any of the default settings..

You would need access to a DCC system for this.

I found this link to the 65006 manual . . .

I have no personal experience of this sound unit but page 10 of this manual includes this . . .

. . . and page 30 has the Figure 4 referred to above . . .

Surprising then that LGB (who go, or at least used to go, to great lengths to stress that things are suitable for digital and analogue operation, make no such claim in their Product Information for this item.

Hope this helps.

Update. I bit the bullet, and connected the “track“ connections, and this unit functions like any other sound unit. It does not sound like the Euro diesel, but instead has a brief bell warning as a smaller diesel/gas engine starts up. I am quite sure this sound unit was designed for the ugly duckling OBB locomotive, the one with the center cab and baggage compartment in the locomotive.

I installed it in an LGB rail bus. It’s OK, but the Rail bus starts moving while the warning bell is ringing and it actually must run out a fairly high rate of speed to engage the motor sound obviously, if I tweak the start up voltage for the motor, or find an alternative locomotive, this will be fine.

Steve,
Massoth used to do an 'analogue motor controller' which goes in the feed to the motor..
This allows the voltage to get near 5-6V (so the electronics / sound wakes up) before the motor turns.

These are discontinued. - I last found one in Europe, last year.

It might be worth checking the suppliers in the US?
