We've had threads for looking at the prototypes behind the LGB model range. What about one for those prototypes that will never be produced commercially, but would make great scratchbuilding or kitbashing projects?

Here are a couple of starters. both from the 3ft gauge Soller Railway on Mallorca. They date from the inter-war period and both are still active. The small one was (I think) made from a Citroen car on a railway trolley base, while the large one is a Hispano Suiza powered overhead line maintenance vehicle. If you didn't have catenery, a look-alike version for mail and parcels might be made from an LGB rail truck and part of a boxcar - a sort of "shorty" Galloping Goose.

first pic looks like the renault-railcar. Seemed to be a liked car to make a railcar from.
The Train Forestier d`Abreschviller have an open one, too.

Looks great, i must say.

Always had a weird "like" for railbuses and cars, these fit right in.
I'd say you should get a hood from the HLW "mack" that's a start for the first one atleast.

A couple more of the Soller trucks:-

Gives an idea of the comparative sizes.

I don't think the Land Rover's too popular!

Thanks for putting up those Soller pictures, Rob; much better than mine. i thought I had a good shot of the Hispano, but couldn't find it. It is much larger than the Renault, as you say. The Land Rover conversion has no style at all, compared with the other two.
