Yep, I use exactly that method (though I have a more substantial steel brush), to distress the scribed stone foamboard. I find that thinking about my current least favourite politician helps keep me going, during the process.
 
Completed test piece, the left side stippled with a wire brush to vairing degrees and the right side dappled with white paint using a sponge,

@viaEstrecha Off out to buy a bigger wire brush and think which politician will get the desired effect, don't want to go to unpopular and break it ;)
 
Ok I give in, been to Google Earth glad I did cos I found the small Museum with a bit of platform, short length of track, Water Tower and Signal. Has Goods Shed gone cos I could not find it, you may have said earlier but what is big tall thing you are on with now please?

An update on No.23. Paint is finished, and has had a coat of matt lacquer; glazing has been fitted to the cab. Wiring is complete and as tidy as it will ever be. With hindsight 24AWG is still a bit on the heavy side -I'm sure I could have used a lighter gauge of wire.

The lights were a little small, so I turned up some covers to fit over them, and secured them with a smear of epoxy.

KW Trams supplied a pair of rather lovely ratchet brake castings. I have a plan for the power switch (watch this space) which meant I had to turn up a tiny (2.5mm outside diameter) plain bearing to fit inside it.

Then on to making duckboards for the cab floor. They are probably a bit too thick, but I had some styrene strip in stock...

Please be careful.. I can't get spares for the Piko RC units.. - I have tried! :D

Thanks -they are the motor wires, and the switch is in the NC position, i.e. charging, so no risk (pardon the pun) currently.
I did wonder if you'd cast a critical (as in observant, not negative) eye over the installation, so I'm pleased if that is the only error that I've made...

I've been a bit coy about the on/off switch on Nº23, mainly so that I could ignore my plan if it didn't work! I've opted for just two positions: on, and off/charge, and have used a cam-operated microswitch that is turned by the ratchet brake handle.20260114_162521.jpgFortunately it is stiff enough to stay in place, and even if it loosens up with wear it should lock in place, as the 'on' position is top dead centre. On the basis of it without messing with the gubbins at the bottom I assume you turn it clockwise, facing middle of tram 1 setting facing towards body the other setting? I do like it very clever.

Sandstone blocks drawn/scribed, making sure they will line up when assembled.

One end stippled/textured with the wire brush, using the @viaEstrecha method, I thought of a moderately annoying politician Giles Brandreth but that didn't make much impact, so I thought of John Prescott and that packed a bit more of a punch!:D
Anyway, a coat of paint on the sandstone.
