What happened at your workbench today?

I have been working on a foam "concrete" retaining wall for the back of the platform, cut to match the contours of the rockwork.

The weathering came out a bit darker than I wanted, but it looks ok in place. 10mm x 1300mm long. The foam cutter was very handy indeed.
Went a lot quicker than painting passengers has been going, a very tedious and frustrating job indeed.

Those Chinese-made figures must be international jet-setters: I've got a few on The Northern. They are moulded from quite a soft polymer, so can be cut and carved quite easily, allowing identical figures to look quite different.20220724_160139.jpg

Yeah some are that soft plastic, others are a hard styrene plastic. Sure do see the same figures a lot.
 
I've been trying to animate my balloon animation a bit more. After much experimenting and some time yesterday afternoon, as Mrs P. was out to lunch with her lady friends and I had the afternoon all to myself, I think I may have succeeded. Since hot air balloons need heat to rise, I have devised a blinking LED to represent the gas flame and a sound module gives the flame it's sound.

And here i am... converting everything to analog.... just a battery pack, chip and remote control...
I wonder if i must proceed with this?
I just disconnect all, incl sound, is it worth it?
My track is not suited for power!
So that is also what you are wanting? or am i mistaking?
So no digital?

Not sure what system you are using for battery control, but there are systems that will utilise existing DCC sound chips if you are prepared to pay for them. For my part I find silent locomotives to be sterile these days.

but, don't forget, turning deaf has it's advantages too.
only the most urgently shouted "Darling do..." calls reach their destination.
layout noises disappear one by one, but still keep disturbing persons away, etc.

my wife has learned, that she must wave a plate full of cookies in my field of vision, if she wants my attention.
 
I have got on with the roof this week, made a base of ofcuts of clear acrylic sheets reinforced with some wood batons to which I will glue the foam roof tile sheets to.20260121_135124.jpg20260122_134805.jpg20260122_150358.jpg20260122_155849.jpg20260122_183942.jpg
The tiles will be painted brick red/terracotta, but first I need to work out the location of the 2 dormers and the roof over the arched window.
Also made some cuts in the back of the roof vent and pushed in some plasticard strips

I just had my audio test and the audiologist diagnosed me with "domestic deafness"; evidently its onset begins at about the 5-7 year mark and get steadily worse, there is no cure or hearing aid to correct it.

sometimes i think, why men are not opposed to celebrate golden weddings.
while women celebrate 50 years of house-breaking of a savage, we men silently drink to finally being immune to nagging and other disturbing noises...

Added a bit of detail to this Emek model log truck.
It got a driver and passenger, turned the front wheels, weathering, load and tie downs and I painted the Hiab and log spikes.
Did think about adding some hydraulic hoses, but thought that might be going too far. maybe later on I will add them.
This truck came with the very first LGB purchase I made.

I have an Emek truck similar to that. They seem to be difficult to find these days.

I also have several 1:24 models of other vehicles, including some RC Huina one which I use with my railway....
