Wellington Group Visit Ben's Railway

Ben's layout is familiar to readers of this forum. Today, it was his turn to host the Wellington Group.



First up, Ben had his 7/8th's running.



A few of the boys have found a use for Ben's speeder. I gave my Climax a run.

Yes it's a kiddy play engine that's given the kids hours of entertainment. We found it at a garage sale down the road from us.

Now, if this critter gets around a layout, without stalling, or derailing, then it's good track and wiring....

Why do I never find a Garage Sale with one of them in it? Looks like a fun day was had by all.

Now for some photos from me. We actually started the afternoon at Ben's other railway, well his other weekend railway interest, the Rimutaka Incline Railway, a burgeoning railway preservation project http://www.rimutaka-incline-railway.org.nz/
It was an operating Sunday for them, giving train rides up and down their compound.

Much to do as evident in the workshop

But what worthwhile project hasn't started from small beginnings.

The loco is a Wb and the wagon is a Yc ballast wagon, they have a few of them. The carriage body is what is local known as a Gum Digger car, a lot to do here but it is well over 100 years old.

More wagons outside, this time two Q wagons, these were used for coal.

The it was off to Ben's Pine Valley Estate Railway (love that name).
Gavin is seated advising Brian C at right cleaning a bit of track while Brian S gets the low down with his camera.

Job done! There is a bit of railway items around, wonder where they came from

Meanwhile watching the trains go by.

Ben's train ran for a while, 7/8th scale (that's 7/8th inch to the foot or approx 1:13.7) is great for showing detail.

Ben's a dab hand on figure painting as well as loco and rolling stock I'm sure you'll agree.

Gavin's Climax did a bit of visitor running.

As did my Simplex.

"What you doing here small fry!" Golly the difference in scale, the Simplex being a 16mm model compared to Ben's 7/8th Model Earth 'Meadows with C cab' loco.

Unfortunately I can't really take credit for the figure painting or the chocolate cake as the services for both of them were contracted in. The size difference between 16mm and 7/8ths was great to see first hand.

Rimututaka crowd have a super Shed. Always a big help for a burgeoning project.

Correctly pronounced ree-moo-tar- car, but rimmer-tucker is widely used.
