Wasp stripes

i am after some advice on how to paint wasp stripes on my ip Lucy. Would the best way be masking tape? Or would you use a ruler and marker?

The idea I am playing with is to paint the whole end yellow then leave it to dry. Apply masking tape and then paint the black in. The theory is that painting black over yellow is easier than yellow over black.

The loco itself will be br green. I have not decided if I should weather it or not.

Thanks for your help

I got the financial director to do mine - she's arty, I'm not!!

Wasp stripes, well there is an easy way, a hard way, and a way I've never tried.

My first try was painting them on by hand, having drawn them on in pencil. This effort can be seen on the playmobil shunter below. Not great, but ok from a distance. (yes I know they are upside down its been pointed out on many occasions.)

My second effort went a lot better and was thanks to advice from fellow members. I painted the plow below all matt black and used yellow trimline to do the lines. You could do the same painting it yellow and doing black trimline. if you've never seen trimline you can buy it from ebay or other model shops such as: http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/trimline.html

A last option is Wasp stripe transfers, places sell the black lines already spaced and just need to be added over the yellow. They are expensive and probably harder to apply over shapes. It would be quicker than trimline but the transfers for larger scales are usually the best part of £20.00.

I hope this has helped, this is only my experience, there may be other members with even better ideas, has any one made a template out of sticky plastic and sprayed over it???

I marked the edges out in pencil, with a ruler. Then, once I was happy with them, carefully (using that ruler again) ran a stanley knife along the pencil lines. I was painting metal buffer beams that were pre painted and this put just enough of a mark in to stop the paint running over them. I then handed it over to my young lady to paint, she's much better at that this painting lark than me!

You do realise Matt, that Andy now wants to borrow your "young lady" to paint his stripes. :rolf:
