WANTED USED LGB Sumpter Mallet 22892 or 20892

I bought a loco from Ellis Clark which was described as RC but in fact had a Massoth XLS decoder inside. I think they got the concept of a DCC wireless controller mixed up with radio control.
Unless the lack of chimney is a showstopper perhaps you could ask the buyer for a picture of the instructions referred to, it might give a clue to what the previous owner has done.

I have also noticed that there are quite a lot of other bits of detailing missing eg, all of the piping from both sides, brake pump from front of smokebox etc.
The previous owner has obviously not done a careful conversion when opening her up and has probably broken the detailing or even just lost them (along with the chimney).
As it is not even known if it actually works properly, has probably been gutted including the sound, if this was going for around £250 it might be worth getting as a project to do a real job on, but I am definitely going to give it a miss at £579!
I phoned Ellis but they are not interested in dropping the price...
I hope that, if they do sell at the price or near it, the new owner realises what is missing...

Not worth the money then. I guess these came from an estate sale and all the bits were dumped into a box or just thrown out. I expect these came from an auction and maybe the parts were in another lot. It annoys me that some so called specialist auction houses can't work out what bits go with which model!

They're obviously not THAT "specialist"......

Jon.

I've bought a couple of lots at auction not realising that thew missing parts were in another lot or was outbid on the lot with the parts which is really frustrating. I've also had to bid on a lot in a later auction as the auction house put the parts from one loco not just in a different lot but also a different auction!

I have just seen another ebay offering from Ellis Clarke - 'near mint' (I think we've discussed that description before) but when you look at the wheels, it's done a fair few laps of the garden.

I'm quite comfortable now that they are definitely specialists - specialist in duplicitous descriptions, using the cop-out that the photos also form part of the description. I would think more of the lying little s**** who write the adverts if they put no words at all, and let the photos tell the story :lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed:

I was looking at one of their postings on ebay - the pictures told the truth!!!!!!!! Excellent Condition my backside! BACHMANN SPECTRUM G SCALE PAIR OF D&RGW PASSENGER COACHES 'RICO' | eBay

The price isn't bad though considering the coaches have metal wheels!

There's a couple more even worse, they've got two Connies 'nearly mint' or whatever - which they then describe as motor working but wheels do not turn whatsoever.

How on earth can a knackered loco with broken drive train be nearly mint :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Personally, I would not buy anything from them, as they just cannot bring themselves to face the facts, and I could not trust them father than I could throw them.

They had some LGB Swiss locos too with all the guts missing.

They seem to know nothing about their G scale stuff and sometimes prices are well over and sometime well under. I recently got an unused Aristo E8 for a very good price and boxes of 3 boxes of 6 LGB 1.2m straights for £60 each. Buying locos is somewhat of a gamble from them.

Currently what makes me laugh is the Bachmann Big Hauler caboose they have up for £140, described as a Spectrum model when the box clearly says Big Hauler on it and their price is about 3 times the new price.

I think 99% mint is their standard description, even if the loco is half missing, the description is still the same - I don't think I could be easily persuaded to deal with them :shake::shake:

I think, although may be wrong that this model represents the wrecks they became sitting on a siding down in South America,a good rust weathering coat would finish her off nicely:clap::clap:

As far as I can tell (my German is not perfect) this has the factory installed MTS system as made by Massoth A check on the catalogue no. confirms this, although it would appear he does not want to ship outside Germany

Have amended the original post and thread title..... I am only after the Sumpter mallet now.....
Thanks for all of the heads up so far....the search continues...:mm::mm:
