I am after a pair of Accucraft IOM 4 wheel coach "axles (45mm gauge) with wheels"

I have just bought a coach, and find that my original coach has the incorrect wheels, the IOM coach wheels are 32.5mm (or there abouts) where as other Accucraft wheels are 30mm. I have tried the trade sourse and cannot find any. Will ing to pay going rate and p&p. Many thanks in anticipation.

Jimmy,
I had the same problem, got some 5mm tube from Wickes or B&Q cut 6mm lengths and pulled the wheels off and pushed them on as spacers, no problem on live rails either :)

I have an assortment of odd wheels. Do you know what they look like.

I guess those tubes are sprinkler risers but I don't think it is a gauge issue. I think it is a diameter issue.
I couldn't remember so Googled the wheels. Plain Jane by the looks. :nerd:

Ahh, just reread Jimmy's post, saw 32mm and thought gauge, not wheel diameter. The correct Accucraft "Maunsell" wheels are 34mm diameter

Just a thought - I used to have a set of these coaches, they have 2 different coupler height mount holes drilled in the ends. Have you got the right wheels but the couplers in the wrong hoes for thr rest of your stock ? Max

Max, didn't look at the coupling heights, however I can see the running boards are different heights, and on measuring the wheels the Accucraft ones are 32.5mm dia. whereas the other are 30mm dia. so would point to the incorrect wheels.

Slaters Gauge 1 (10 mm : 1 ft) list the following:

S91163'1" 8 Open Spoke (Wagon) Standard Profile£12.08£14.50

That's for four wheels on two axles

You might need to do some work on the bearings as I'm not sure about axle diameters, but I have successfully used lengths of brass tube to make out axle journals :nod:

So what prototype is that truck/bogie off?

So the Mansell wheel is a wooden composite wheel. Very interesting. Probably nice and 'cushy'. :nerd:

Those wheels are a form of bifurcated spoke, not Mansell :nerd::nerd:

It may be that the 4-wheel coaches had different wheels to the bogie coaches.

A bit of research is required - Northsider's yer man :nod: but I think he's gone on a retirement world cruise and may be gone some time :think:

Thinking about it, the Maunsell,(as there referred to in the Iom) came on the Accucraft goods stock, Plain wheels on the coaches 4 wheeled or bogie.

I am still a little confused Jimmy - are you looking for 32.5 mm or 30 mm dia' wheels. You don't actually make clear which you wish to replace. Also a picture of the incorrect wheel sets might identify their origin too. I understand the 45 mm gauge bit. Max

There's an interesting thing about Mansell and Maunsell (allegedly pronounced Mansell)

According to Wiki:

Richard Edward Lloyd Maunsell was CME of the South Eastern from 1913 to 1923

Richard Mansell was Carriage & Wagon Superintendent of the South Eastern when his wheel design was created in the 1840s

So, I don't know if these two were related, or just ended up in similar places by chance :think::think::think:

Yeah, maybe there were two different blokes that had wheels named after them with similar names. How unusual considering their surnames were not 'Smith'.

Thanks for the explanation. Those trucks are similar looking to West Side Lumber Co. trucks.

The correct wheels are 32.5mm diameter, the axels on the IOM coach are also shorter.

Let us be done with this confusion! :tmi:

IOM E guards van (presumably the same as the 4 wheeled coach).
