Here's a short video of my recently-remotored LGB 2085D SEG Mallet running on our 45mm track at Mereside. The apparent loss of velocity is due to a poor track connection - about seventy-five feet from the main feed - and although there are a couple more POC, we obviously need to upgrade at that point.
Just to say that with so few of our locos actually operating off track voltage it's not really our primary concern. The roundtuit will get'er fixed.
A little bit of history, if you can bear with me. When this loco came out, back in 1983, the demand was HUGE, especially as we lived in Berlin at the time. The dealer, based in Koenigsallee, was swamped with orders, so he took them all down in his order book, along with payment in full. It sold, back then, for a whopping 850DM - a very considerable piece of change in 1983.
We were notified that the delivery would be made very early one November morning, so, lining up in the snow, there were easily a hundred of us at the roadside, wrapped up like Nanuq of the North, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the big red and green LGB truck from Nuernberg. It came, looking like a huge LGB box, and as soon as the crew got out, the store manager was there with his order book, calling out names, and we took delivery of our Mallets in strict order. The truck crew still had another three deliveries to make in Berlin, with most of them going to KaDeWe, in total, they said, over four hundred Mallets.
THAT, friends, was the power of LGB in those days.
I got back into the car, and went home for breakfast. It was not yet 7am...
