Videos.....

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
I am very impressed with you chaps who maker videos, you make it look so easy....
I have just spent the day trying to assemble a video containing a few movie clips and old still photos. To say it was a tedious excercise would be an understatement... Couldn't get any on screen text so had to do a voice over....
Its been a sharp learning curve.....

Hi Trev, I expect that you do not use a Mac.
At the risk of waking all of the PC - Mac debating protagonists...
Using iMovie on a Mac is really easy and excellent results can be achieved (it comes free with Macs)...There are some good PC stuff out there but the free progs are a little 'light' in creative features and not so intuitive as iMovie.

I tried a few of the free basic vid editors, settled on "Video Pad".... I'm sure if I had read the instructions I would have been better off...
Then again quite a few ask me for help with Adobe Audition, so its just one of those things....

I agree that the iMovie program on a Mac is very helpful.

This movie trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEkep26hvRs used sound, edits, and special effects all on the iMac.

iMovie does allow the creative juices to flow.

Looking forward to your flick. :)

Yes very good - but then it leaves you salivating for more ;D

Hi Trev

Have you looked at Serif Movie Plus Starter Edition? - http://www.serif.com/free-video-editing-software/
It's a full featured video editing package with only a few of the fancy features disabled. Once you've installed and registered it you do then get offers for an upgrade which are actually quite good value. I eventually (after a couple of years) upgraded to the full edition for under £20 and they threw in the printed manual for free. My mate who's a discerning amateur photographer uses it for all his presentations and he rates it highly.

Rik

PS - Just realised what they give you for free is the previous version of their editing package rather than the most recent release. So in edffect it's a full featured product which just doesn't have the latest bells and whistles

Ahhhh I may have downloaded that.... I think the problem is with the user, I may be better at making swivelling trolley heads than trying to learn "new tricks" on the pc.... I've got it sort of sorted, I have the Audio track and now have to make the video the same length.... Scheduled for world wide release on Armistice Day....

Here's the Little River Railway vid where real life video and stills are mixed with the garden railway footage....really nicely done

Very crisp and professional....

Great video. I am fairly new to Mac. The iMovie feature makes it simpler to upload videos to Youtube. I still have a way to go to learn more about it however. And reading the instructions would definitely be helpful, but going between the two screens I forget what the last instruction said [e]296[/e]

I have to agree with Mike (Beavercreek) re the Mac. So simple, but I do understand that not all can afford the Mac. However for those that have an iPad, I believe that iMovie is available for around 3 Sqids. Probably not the full version, but I would guess usable.

However for all you out there that made the effort - whatever your choice of application,

MANY THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR EFFORTS!!!

the serif "free" version says you have to pay £4.99 to enable the import codecs after 14 days so not exactly free is it? have been using windows movie maker for smaller projects. seems stable enough... mart

It was so much simpler in the days of 16mm movie film.....

How about that, Trev. I used an 8mm, actually it was a Super 8mm camera, many, many years ago. I could splice film, etc. All by hand and a simple splicer. Not much in the way of instructions needed. Never owned a camcorder. Only found out by accident that the digital camera the kids gave me when I retired could shot videos. Now my smart phone does it all. Stills, videos, pan shots,+++. And it all loads to my computer via iCloud automatically.

Sneaky. They've added that since I downloaded my version. Mind you, a full editing package for £5 still ain't bad.

Owww compromising train videos (can I say that) :o

Yes, I believe it's proper. Although you may want to cover the eyes of those you feel too young to watch videos of steam locos without their shrouding on :D

Adelaide had X rated trams... Crowds used to gather in great masses to watch them 'Couple' in Mosely Sq, there is even videos of them coupling but I wont post them here because it would be offensive to the younger forumites....
Oh damn ok then just for you perverts...
In the opening scene we see a mated pair and 363 has its genitals exposed.....

I have eventually got my video together and I used this program which I found relativley intuitive to use; http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html
BUT it is now telling me that my free trial is up (no mention of that when I downloaded it) and because I'm using the free - not for commercial use version it took 57mins to actually "create" my vid in AVI low res format.... Not sure if that is because I refused to pay up at the point where I tried to "create" the video or if its just a time consuming process...

If I wanted to be nasty I'd download the full version using a torrent :-X :o
