Useful bits

It's stating the blinkin' obvious but just in case someone new to kit building happens upon this thread...

Never throw out the remaining stuff from an IP kit after you've built it. The frets from bulkheads can be used as a template for scratch building, the laser cut frets could well be windows (in fact one bit of mine was) and a quick cut with a razor saw gives you some very useful planks. The list is probably endless, so keep the stuff if you have the room. :)

And once you've amassed a bushel or two of "useful bits" your significant other will tell you to toss the lot before buying one more thing....

Oh dear, the feared 'Squirrellitis syndrome' :nerd:

shure - how should one be able to scratchbuild something, without a hoard to choose from?
a "squirrell" or "packrat" lives a happy life. everytime while searching one needed piece of [strike]ju[/strike] of rawmaterial, one finds things long forgotten!

One hopes this model is better than the previous types as they were dreadful in quality and had a right load of stick from purchasers.
No doubt a useful piece of workshop equipment....if it works properly and consistantly and you have a regular, purposeful use for it (kit making?).
Hmmm yes they do seem to work quite well I watched one cut out frames for a model spitfire out of 4mm aeroply..... I was suitably impressed.....

And I was considering buying an NC Laser scroll saw to make my own.....
One of these, simple to use, a mate has one and its mind boggling.....

AND would be cheaper than my milling machine.......

"All items being in stock in Sydney Australia" seems a little surprising given the very chinglish nature of the instructions; I wonder why they're not shipping direct from China?
Yes very interesting and decidely dodgy... I emailed asking if I could pickup in Sydney and got told that they had a warehouse in the UK but it was not staffed so I could not pick up from the warehouse.... I did try and clarify by telling them I was in Sydney all to no avail they just went off in gibberish. That of course means that the postage is padded and I told them I was going to report the padding of the postage to eBay who of course are not interested.... It only cost me $80 to get the milling machine which weighs about 90kg shipped from Adelaide and they want over $200 to bring 30kg from Sydney.....
Still this kit would be very useful. All manner of Australian prototypes could be made by scanning drawings and working from that there would be a mad rush for G gauge Coffeepot kits and even the humble CPH railmotor would sell like hotcakes.... Only one other catch the driver software has a USB dongle which means only one computer can be used to set up/ design the jobs - unless anyone knows how to duplicate a dongle.....
