I have a USA trains dockside switcher with the main PCB failed, I want to fit a digital decoder, make not a problem at this point, the lights are LED's, again not a problem, but I am not able to ascertain the smoke unit voltage, it doesn't have a fan but it is pulsed through a piston on the driving axle, any ideas or knowledge of the working voltage would be appreciated.

I would start out at 5 volts, and perhaps higher, but it looks relatively sturdy. Note there is a thermistor in the assembly that could be used as feedback for out of fluid.

From the size of the heating element, and the fact that it is no fan driven, do not expect volumes of smoke, I'm saying this in hopes you don't turn up the voltage/current too high and damage the element. I would say do not go over 5 watts to the heater.
