Two Sheds Light Railway

Can only be a manufacturing issue then Mike.

One easily corrected with a disc cutter....

Gizzy. Just had another look at the underside - should have looked a bit further in the first place. Track still appears factory assembled but sleeper webbing in two parts a la LGB. one is GG320 and the other GG280. That explains how it's exactly 600mm.

That's interesting?

GG320 should be a 320 mm length of track, according to the info I have from this PIKO pdf here;

http://www.gaugemaster.com/piko/Piko-G-Scale-Track.pdf

A 600 mm length of track should be GG600.

Maybe you've some cut and shut track!

I know Mel has some Piko track, and he has never mentioned anything about the rails not being aligned? Bigjack has some of the points, and again, he has never mentioned this.

I haven't any Piko track yet, so I'll leave it to others for their comment Mike....

Just got home so I thought I'd check the track again. All lengths are exactly 600mm. There appears no way to loosen or adjust the fishplates. The rail ends are offset by 3mm. The plastic sleeper webbing says copyright PIKO 2007. Reference numbers 35200-0121 & GG320 present.

I got a dozen 600mm lengths and they all seem to be the same. All s/h but no evidence of them being tampered with. As they were only £3 each, I think I can live with it.

I bought some PIKO straights recently and didn't realise the track ends are offset by a few mm. Presume I'll have to trim the longer raiil when connecting to LGB or Aristo. Anyone else had same problem or got a better idea?
Didn't notice this when I first saw the Piko track a few years ago?

Might be worth checking with your vendor Mike, as it could be a manufacturing fault....
For £3 each, I reckon I could live with it too? That's a real steal!

I would try and ajust the rails so that the track ends are the same. Might mean loosening or replacing the fish plates? This is what holds the rail in place on LGB track, so it might be the same with the Piko too....

Sitting here, tea in one hand computer in the other. Loco + 2 + brake trundling round. Been waiting for this for some time!
Don't just sit there drinking and typing?

Take some pix and post man....

Great pix mate!

Okay the ballast looks a bit overscale, but I'd rather see that then pix of you in your Mankini....

Except of course "Pigs Ear" the small green IPE diesel began to live up to its name by bursting the newly fitted gearbox. I have a fix but I got on to IPE, watch this space.
Is it running the original gear box?

If so, I simply fettled a metal strap around the end of the motor and back around the gearbox - those gearboxes are fine in one direction when the worm is pulling it onto the motor, but in the other direction they tend to press the auto-eject button :onphone::onphone:

I'm surpised the new fandangled one failed - it looks reasonable sturdy from the pictures, and a gearbox is not normally under excessive load :nerd:

I eventually gave up on the Mk1 version becasue the ratio was too high, and [strike]made[/strike] mangled my own up using a Bachmann 35:1 gear set from some old Bug Mauler, the bearings from the IP gearbox, and a piece if aluminium flat bar bent into a 'U' shape.

I've never published any photos of it 'cos it ain't perfik, but as it works OK, I'm sticking with the 'if it an't broke, don't fix it' rule :bigsmile:

Your loco's certainly brighten up a dull day. the rakes of side tippers look marvellous too:thumbup:

Nice one Johnnie. Progress may be slow but its in the right direction and its looking good......:thumbup::thumbup::bigsmile:

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Nice to see your up and running again.
