Trying to obtain something from Modell-land

Good morning all

Is there anyone based within the EU (or travelling to Germany soon?) that can help me with a tiny purchase from Modell-land.de that isn't available elsewhere (other than possibly Train-li in the States, who get their items "from a warehouse in Germany", otherwise Modell-land, anyway)?

I've just checked their site and while they no longer absolutely rule out posting items to the UK, it is only offered with dire warnings about extra (unspecified) charges (let alone what they will charge if the delivery isn't accepted) that will almost certainly be greater than the value of the items I want to buy (which cost less than 14 euros, and once fitted carefully into an envelope wouldn't exceed 5mm in thickness) . . .

If anyone might be able to help, please send me a DM.

All the best

David

did you get any success with this request David ?
Well, no and yes. No offers to help source items from Modell-land (until Curtis's of yesterday) but, in the meantime, @Tanker man very kindly agreed to 3D print the items I was wanting. Since I have "other irons in the fire" with Dave, I just need to find the opportunity to call in to collect them.

Well, if all else fails, I’d offer to order it here in Germany and then send it on to you.

However, that means high postage and customs charges. It’s all down to Brexit, sorry.

I sent a cheap IP Chassis kit from here to Germany literally a year ago (Almost to the day).
Cost of kit £14.50
Postage £ 8.95 That was the cheapest and did not include any tracking.

Hi Peter thanks for the offer.... Your right as you would pay VAT your end, then it would get charged again this end so could be costly, Deutsche Post can be quite difficult also if the wrong box is ticked.

I have not come across a problem with retailers in Portugal, France, Italy or Holland that I have purchased from, Only Germany ! which is very sad as it a former big market and full of product people want to buy. Mostly its just about filling the document info correctly.

In my own business I had one German suppler who just stop returning emails after leaving "the block", where as another could not be easier to deal with and told me how "Exit" was promoted in Germany and had scared retailers, It didnt help that couriers would just return items with no notification in the early days, but this rarely happens now as customs info is better known. I just stopped purchasing certain German products and ended up finding a China suppler who had copied the product (sad as i used to push to my customer that it was "German made" and that held a certain prestige)

For what it is worth, I've had several major purchases from German stockists post-Brexit (including my new LGB Faur diesel only a week ago) and not had any problems at all. The German dealers I have used have all been happy to deduct their local VAT (as they should do according to the rules) and ship to me via DHL at the nett price, I then pay the UK VAT to Customs (via Parcelfarce) online who then deliver the package in a couple of days. The only "extra" I have to pay (aside from the shipping of course) is the £12 PF handling charge which, though a little annoying, isn't any kind of a deal-breaker when you're saving more than £200-£400 on the price of the loco compared to paying UK retail. Of course, if you are only trying to order a small inexpensive item or two then the situation is a bit different, and the shipping and fees will probably make it prohibitive.

Jon.
