This story is extremely interesting. You are making a very good model and I do not blame you for letting doubters go to heck. What matters is that it is an extremely good likeness of the beast. You are scratch building it and all credit for that.
I built an 0 Gauge Railway that I used to take to shows and used to get many good comments. But there were rivet counters that used to look at it with scorn. My stock phrase used to be that I built it to a 'common standard of mediocrity' that usually stumped them or at least find someone else to ass their scorn upon.
Re the Rivets, what are these Russian Rivets? I have in the past used various Dressmaking Pins as Rivets, these are easier to source. But you do get idd looks in the sort of ladies sewing shops when asking where the pins are!
