Simply stand on the right hand rail place a drift on the end of the left hand rail and gently tap till the rail slides back and the fishplate is released ease the rail back and all is done

Here is the problem with that approach:

You will destroy the spot welded contact straps….
 
I personally throw them away, so I open them flat with pliers, and then twist them off and I have yet to damage a tie...

I put the needlenose pliers at 90 degrees to the rail, then turn the pliers along their axis.

The pliers push against the rail end, so no pressure on the tie..

the twisting action curves the now flattened joiner and that curving helps release the tab up and out as opposed to flat pulling it away.

No damaged ties, but again I toss the now flattened joiner.

That method will not work for points as your illustration showing the rail behind the fishplate shows. My method related to earlier does work without destroying any points spot contacts as the rail with sleepers is pushed back, thus having no effect on the spot welded contacts.
 
You bin spying on my garden 'ave yer?
If getting the joiners out is so difficult, wouldn't it be easier to solder jumpers across the joints?
